Chapter 10
After parting ways with Jayden, I threw myself wholeheartedly into the development of Wanderer Phase II.
To my surprise, Bronx turned out to be one of the key leaders of the research team. Even more unexpectedly, he was only two years older than me and was also an alumnus
from my university.
Bronx was exceptionally skilled. His technical ability was impressive, and his drawings were flawless, as if produced by a laser printer. During the closed research periods at the institute, Bronx not only offered me a great deal of professional guidance but also took great care of me in everyday life.

Even someone as oblivious as I could sense Bronx’s special attention towards me, and as we spent more time together, I began to develop feelings for him.
Whenever I was alone with Bronx, I would become unnaturally nervous, while he seemed to grow even more considerate and gentle with me. The others at the research institute began to notice the chemistry between us and occasionally teased us about it.
To put it bluntly, the last thin veil between Bronx and me had all but vanished. Yet neither of us rushed–both of us enjoyed the unspoken connection that silently grew between us, letting things unfold naturally, waiting for the day when we would both acknowledge our feelings.

Phase II project had reached a significant milestone, and I was granted a half–month vacation.
But when Bronx and I stepped out of the research institute, laughing and talking, we unexpectedly ran into someone at the door.
Jayden.
Seeing him again felt like a lifetime had passed.
He stared at me for a moment, then, to my surprise, his eyes reddened.
He rushed towards me, and I instinctively took a step back.
Bronx, however, remained calm, stepping in front of me to shield me.

Jayden rushed toward me, his voice trembling with anger. “Lyn! Why haven’t you responded to my messages? Do you have any idea how I’ve been for the past two months?”
“How could you treat me like this–coldly ignoring me?”
His lips quivered, as if I were the one who had wronged him in some unforgivable way. But the truth was, it was him who had first turned his back on me.
I had no intention of explaining myself to
him. Besides, I had two accounts–one for work, the other for personal life. My personal account had been deactivated the night I received the call about my mother’s critical condition. I never logged into it again, so naturally, I hadn’t seen any of Jayden’s messages.
In another two weeks, the system would permanently deactivate the account, and by then, Jayden would figure it out on his own.
I didn’t answer his question, simply narrowing my eyes and asking, “Jayden? Why are you here? Haven’t we already broken up? You’ve gone back to the Smith family, playing the role of the heir, haven’t you?”
His lips parted in a silent pause before he spoke again, his voice tinged with desperation. “I never agreed to break up, Lyn. We’re about to get married. Don’t joke like that.”
He reached for my hand, but Bronx swiftly intervened.
“Lyn has already broken up with you. Show

both of us unsure of what was happening.
Then, without warning, Jayden’s face flushed bright red. He called my name, his voice frantic, and suddenly dropped to one knee in front of me.
“Lyn, I know I was wrong.”
“I’ve hurt you countless times, taking advantage of your love for me. It wasn’t until you disappeared that I realized how essential you were to me–like oxygen.”
His voice cracked, tears welling in his eyes as he choked on his words. His tone was hoarse and filled with anguish.
“Darling… Without you, I’d die. I can’t live without you, Lyn.”
“Please, give me another chance. Please”
He pulled out the jewelry box I had waited for, hoping for so long to receive.
