Never in my life have I felt so irked by something that normally shouldn’t matter to me. But it does. It fucking does.
Russo was nowhere to be seen when I got back from his sister’s.
“Russo!” I bellowed out his name, walking into my study room and he came rushing in. “Capo.”
“Find out everything you can about this guy right here.” I threw him a picture of the guy with Alessia at the restaurant today.
“Yes, boss.” He said as he bent down to pick up the picture and hurried out of my study.
There was something not right about that guy and it disgusted me so much to see her with him.
Thankfully, I left a calling card in the brand–new car I got her, and knowing how stubborn she tends to get, she will want to return it.
Especially now that she knows exactly who I am.
I could feel a smile weirdly creeping in as I thought about this.

“He did what?!” Isa screamed at me, barely able to contain her surprise after I told her about the car gift.
We were both working the morning shift at the diner and the first customers were yet to come in so we talked freely.
Although I went out last night because of a surprise that Enzo had for me, the biggest surprise of all came from stranger. I still couldn’t believe that Leonardo had gotten me a brand–new car.

Why would he even do that? He knows how much I hate his guts yet he chose to spend God knows how much money on a car just so I’m safe?
“Wait. Who did you say he was again?” Isa asked with a serious expression on her face.
I hesitated before answering. “His name’s Leonardo De Luca.” I blurted out, avoiding eye contact.
“The Leonardo De Luca? Girl, did you just hit the jackpot or what? Everybody knows that guy is freakkking loaded.” She said in a sing–song voice.
I walked away from her as I tied my apron behind my back. “I’m going to return it,” I said.
“Are you joking?”

“How do I fucking explain to Enzo I got a brand new car?” I asked, already getting annoyed. Isa remained quiet, contemplating the wisdom in my words.
“Do you even know where he lives? You chased him out of your apartment and the only thing you know about him right now is his name.” She finally said, this time, more calmly. I know he’s a killer too. I thought to myself.
“Well, he left a note on one of the car seats containing an address which is probably to his
house.”
I’m not even surprised he left that note because we both know I wasn’t going to accept anything from him.

“Why won’t he just leave me alone?” I whispered.
“Girl, why do you think? He wants you” She giggled.
“Hut he can’t have me! I don’t want him!” I felt the first strand of tears fall down my cheeks.
“Are you okay, Alt”
And that was the moment I finally came to tell my best friend Isabella all about me and the real reason I ran away from home
“Oh, baby,” She cradled me in her arms. “Why didn’t you tell me?” I just shook my head,
“I’m with Lorenzo now. I can’t afford this kind of distraction,” I said as I dried my tears.
“Right right, because Enzo does so much for you,” Isa replied sarcastically.
Isabella never really liked Enzo. She feels like he doesn’t pay as much attention to me as a boyfriend should. I guess on some level she was right. I mean he hardly ever spends time with me because he’s busy or something. But we’re still young and it can’t be that bad right?
“What do I do? I can’t just drive up to his house. Even though we were once supposed to be married, I barely know him. Except his name and the fact that he’s into some shady mafia business.”
“You do what you feel is right, Al.” Isa gave me one tight hug as the first customer walked in.
Immediately my shift was over, I got in the car and drove towards the address on the note. I arrived at the building and walked towards the reception desk.
“Hi, I’m wondering if Leonardo lives here?”
The receptionist’s eyes widened and she froze almost out of…fear?
“Mr De Luca? He only has a few people on his invite list. What’s your name?” She asks. “My name’s Alessia.”
She types something on her computer.
“I’m not here to stay. I just wanted to return this-” I was about to fish out the car keys and hand them to her when I noticed how she stills as she looks shocked at something she probably saw.
“Ms. Guzman. Oh my God, I’m so sorry, please make your way up. He lives in the penthouse.” She panics as she stands up to shake my hand.
She sounds like he was expecting me already. Confused rushes over me.
“Right uhmmm- thank you.” I smiled awkwardly, not exactly sure what was happening as I slowly made my way to the elevator and pressed the button leading to the penthouse.
What am I doing?
I should’ve just dropped the car keys with the receptionist and be on my way but the way she treated me like I was some kind of celebrity made me curious.
The elevator door opens to a big fancy door. I knocked timidly and a few seconds later, I was taken aback by the

opened the door and was standing in front of me.
I turned right back, ready to hightail it to the elevator but before I could get to it, it closes
Goddammit elevator!
I slowly turned back and mustered up enough courage to come face–to–face with the guy in front of me.
He just stood there, not moving a muscle.
Because he hadn’t seen or heard from me in about a year, he didn’t look too
excited. Although, strangely, I detected in his eyes a bit of… pride?
I shook my head, convinced that I was
just reading too much into the situation.

What was he doing here anyway?
“Russo?”
“Alessia.” He looked at me from head to toe. “Good of you to finally join us.” He continued in a sarcastic tone.
“What are you doing here?”
Oh God please don’t tell me my dad is in there too!
“Don’t you think I should be the one asking the questions? How do you fall right back into the arms of the man you ran away from?” He ran his hand through his dark hair, cussing.
He walked closer to me.
“You just don’t understand how much danger the family is in. And if you weren’t my sister, I would’ve-”
“Touch her and I’ll blow your fucking brains out myself. Brother or not.” A familiar voice spoke, coming up from behind
