Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Leonardo De Luca
My fist itched to punch through the brick wall of my office after hearing what Russo just told me about Enzo but I stopped myself.
“Lorenzo Hernandez is fucking untouchable. Except we want to start a war right now. We both know that that’s what the Hernandez gang has been waiting for to bring us down.”
“You think I care about some fucking war?! Hell, I’ll gladly go into one alone just so I know she’ll always be protected. Didn’t you see what that sick fuck did to her?” My teeth dig into each other and my jaws begin to ache.
Russo wipes a hand down his face and then adjusts the belt in his trousers. He had a pained expression on his face but it was quickly masked.
“He’ll pay for what he did to my sister. But we also need to be strategic about this. We can’t afford to go into a gang war at this time. We got so much shit to sort out with Landon concerning the lost shipment.”
“Fuck! How has everything turned to shit so quickly?!”
“We’ll get this sorted.” Russo steps closer.
“We always do.”
“Does Alessia even know who her supposed boyfriend is?”
“I’m not sure she does. She’s so opposed to the lifestyle and that’s why she left in the first place to avoid marrying into one. He must’ve hidden that part of him from her. Of course, he did.”
“Landon threatened us if we didn’t get him his extra money and the thought of giving him more of my money makes me sick.” I pushed myself back into my chair and I landed with a thud.
“We’ll get him the money. we have plenty of it.”
I grip a pen and stab it down the wood of my desk.
“Fuck Rizzo for screwing us over!”
“We’ll get to the bottom of this and make things right,” Russo said, reassuringly.
My head rests back on the chair and I look up at the ceiling. “I need to get out of here and clear my head. Wanna join me?”
“No, boss,” Russo replied. “I want to stay here with her.”
Russo might try to act nonchalant and fierce but I could see in his eyes how much he cared for his sister.
The more time I spent with him, the more I realized how similar we both were. I retreat to my specialized cabinet and place a gun into the back of my waistband, then I slide on my jacket and head downstairs.
Alessia Guzman
I wake up late, my entire body stiff like I’m wrapped up like a Christmas present. I squeezed my eyes tightly together before opening them and checking my surroundings.

Dark walls, dark sheets, huge windows. This is not my room. I quickly sit up, immediately flinching from the pain around my stomach. I lifted my shirt to see the dark purple bruises slowly clearing up but then I did a double take realizing that this was not my shirt.
Did he–change my clothes?
I got out of bed fighting the nausea that immediately washed over me. I cautiously make my way out of the room, holding onto my belly.
I knew I needed to be at work but the smell of pancakes filled up my nostrils and I tried to find my way down to the kitchen.
Some minutes later, I walk into the kitchen where I spot a middle–aged woman pouring mix into a pan.
I slowly began making my way towards her but then I spotted someone already sitting on the kitchen table munching on a huge stack of pancakes.
“Good of you to finally join us,” Russo mumbled.
Where’s Leo?
I ignored him, not really in the mood to get into a conversation with him as I continued making my way toward the lady. She spots me and smiles.
“Hi! You must be Alessia. I’m Guilia. Mr De Luca told me you were hurt. How do you feel now?” She asked sweetly with a thick Italian accent and I nodded in return with a soft smile.
She nodded and turned back to flip the pancake.
I carefully sat myself down on the kitchen table across from Russo and I flinched slightly from the pain.
Russo immediately rushes over. “Are you okay?”
“Why the fuck do you care?” I spat at him.
“oh no, no, more. No cursing in Guilia’s kitchen.” Guilia said, holding onto a wooden spatula in a warning.
Surprisingly, I giggled, mumbling ‘sorry‘ in her direction. Russo sat back down with an amused expression on his face as well. Just then, Guilia placed a steaming plate of pancakes in front of me.
“There you go, please eat.”
She was about to leave when I placed my hand on hers.
“Wait, hmm… do you know where Leonardo is?”
She stiffened and across the table, I felt Russo stiffen as well.
“Mr De Luca is… hmm…. taking care of some important business.” She smiles again, then leaves.
I avert my eyes back to Russo.
“What kind of important business? What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked him.
“Look, Alessia, it’s just business. Nothing for you to worry about.” He said, avoiding my eyes.
1 knew he was lying but deep down, I was scared to know the truth so I left it alone, concentrating on my pancakes.

“I need to be at work. I have the afternoon shift today.” I blurted out.
“You no longer work there, Al. I called on your behalf saying you quit.” “You did what?!”

“You know what, Alessia? It’s high time you see that we all just want the best for you. You know you got yourself into this mess. If only you had just stayed with Leonardo, you wouldn’t have met that sick fuck you claim to be your boyfriend.”
All of a sudden, I got so emotional as tears started pouring down my cheeks. “Fuck!” I heard Russo mutter as he stumbled out of the kitchen.
“There there, bambina. There’s no reason to cry now. Mr Guźman is a nice man who just can’t pick out his words.” Guilia came forward stroking my back comfortingly.
Russo stepped back into the kitchen with a bottle of gin and a glass. He poured a little gin into the glass, handing it to me.
“Here, this will help with the pain.”
I looked up into his eyes and I found them saying the words he’d rather die before he’d utter with his mouth. I outstretched my hand to get the glass from him when Guilia held me back forcefully.
“What are you doing?” She asked, a concerned expression on her face.
I looked at her in confusion and then back to Russo and the glass of gin still in his outstretched hand.
“Surely, you know you shouldn’t be drinking right?”
“It’s okay, Guilia. It’s just a little and it will help with the pain.” Russo reassured her. “That’s not it.” And then she turned to
me,
“Surely you know you’re going to be a mamma?”
I felt my whole world spin at her words.
