Chapter 2
His choice took everyone by surprise.
Lily burst into tears of joy, while I stood frozen, my mouth hanging open in shock.
The man who had sworn to love me above all else had, in a life–or–death situation, chosen the very person who had betrayed me.
I trembled as I asked, “Why?”
“Howard, I’m carrying our child. Shouldn’t you save the baby first?”
Ten million sounded like easy, but with our current situation, there was no way we could come up with that money in such a short
time.

Lily, alone, had more flexibility. A single woman would be easier to save than a pregnant one like me.
Howard hesitated, opening his mouth in a struggle. “Wendy, Lily is innocent.”
“But my child is even more innocent!” I shouted, unable to control my emotions.
And if it weren’t for Lily revealing my identity, none of this would’ve happened.
She brought this upon herself.
Howard, however, disagreed with my words.
“Wendy, even if the child is lost, you could have another. But Lily is a living, breathing person!”
“When did you become so selfish?”

Chapter 2
It was the first time in all the years we’d been together that Howard spoke so harshly to
- me.
If I had been alone, without a child to consider, I would have saved Lily first despite his choice.
But now, everything had to come second to the child. No one could come before him.
I was about to speak, but Howard walked over and embraced me.
“Wendy, I’ll get Lily back first, then come back to rescue you and the baby as soon as I can.”
“Don’t act rashly and ruin my plan!”
I looked into his sincere eyes, and my words

faltered.
It wasn’t that I was convinced by him, but that I was too disappointed to argue.
Once the money was delivered, Howard didn’t hesitate to take Lily from the hijackers.
When the plane landed, he held her and walked away, leaving me with nothing but empty assurances.
“Wendy, take care of yourself and the baby.”
“I won’t let anything happen to you, I promise.”
His words sounded comforting, but when I looked up, all I saw was his retreating figure.
I gave a bitter smile, then let all my strength drain away.

I allowed the hijackers to take me to a small island by the sea.
As I sat there, cradling my belly, one of them mocked, “You really think Howard will come back for you?”
I didn’t answer, lowering my head in silence.
Later, in the dead of night, I suddenly heard footsteps as the hijackers approached.
Before I could react, they shoved a burlap sack over my head and threw me into the
sea.
The suffocating pressure hit me like a wave.
And then came a cold, chilling voice, colder than the ocean itself.

A clean voice rang out. I was a bit confused for a moment.
I was about to respond when I heard Howard’s name on the TV.
In that instant, it felt as if I had been struck by lightning., and I leaned forward, my ears straining to hear.
Howard solemnly announced that I had tragically passed away.
And then, he happily declared, “I will marry Lily in a month.”
I couldn’t hear anything else. Those words echoed in my head, drowning out everything else.
“Wendy, Lily is innocent. Our issues shouldn’t

“When did you become so selfish?”
Howard’s words from the plane flashed in my mind, and I felt the sting all over again.
I laughed bitterly, finally realizing the truth.
My fists clenched involuntarily, until the sharp pain shoot through me, bringing me back to reality.
The person who saved me sighed, taking out bandages and ointment.
“You have to take care of your body.”
“Even if you don’t value yourself, you should think about the baby.”
