Chapter 3
His words about the baby caught my
attention, and I stared down at my belly, lost in thought.
In such a dangerous situation, I never thought I’d still be able to keep the baby.
The sudden change–from near death to life -was almost too much to process.
I couldn’t hold back my emotions anymore. I covered my face, laughing and crying like a madwoman.
When I finally calmed down, I turned to my savior Stewart Porter for a leave.
I need to go back and expose Howard’s true face. I’ll take back everything that belongs to

He didn’t even look up, but his words stopped me in my tracks.
“Are you sure going back now will keep your baby safe?”
“If he’s willing to harm you once, he’ll do it again.”
I was curious how he knew.
Before I could ask, the next sentence answered my question.
“I overheard their phone call. The person on the other end should be your husband.””
I nodded, swallowing the bitterness that rose in my throat, and sat back down.

Fatigue from the past days hit me all at once, and soon, I drifted into a deep, heavy sleep.
In my sleep, a sharp pain suddenly seized my belly.
“Stewart! Stewart! Take me to the hospital!”
I screamed in panic.
Stewart rushed to carry me into the car and sped off.
The baby was born prematurely.
Her fragile little body, once so full of promise, now lay broken, like a delicate porcelain doll.
She could only lie quietly in an incubator.
As I watched her, my hatred for Howard only deepened.

Once the baby was out of danger, I made my way back home alone.
It just so happened that Howard and Lily were having their wedding.
When they saw me, their faces drained of color, as if they had seen a ghost.
“W… Wendy?”
“Weren’t you dead? How are you here?”
I looked at Lily in her pristine white wedding dress, a bitter smile curling on my lips.
“If I hadn’t come back, how would I have known that the person I raised with my own hands would team up with my husband to kill me?”

As I spoke, the wedding hall erupted into chaos.
Howard finally snapped out of his daze.
He approached me, pretending nothing was wrong, his eyes welling with tears.
“Wendy, you’re alive!”
“Thank God!”
When he saw my flattened belly, his emotions overtook him, and he cried even harder.
“Wendy, our baby…
“I’m so sorry, I failed you, I failed the baby. I deserve to die!”
I watched him coldly as he’s still pretending

in front of me.
I couldn’t hold back the surge of sorrow, my voice hoarse and desperate as I confronted him.
“You said you would come to save me, didn’t you?”
“But instead of coming, you had the nerve to remarry before my body was even cold?”
“Howard, don’t tell me those hijackers were part of your plan to have me killed!”
My words hit like a storm.
The media below raised their cameras,
capturing every moment.
Lily stumbled back behind Howard, terrified.

Howard’s face went pale, his fingers instinctively curling into fists.
“W… Wendy… how could you think like that?”
Seeing his reaction, I laughed until I couldn’t stand, tears spilling down my face.
Once I wiped them away, I snapped my fingers.
“Howard, you asked me how would I think like that?”
“This is the proof!”
The panic in Howard’s eyes was impossible to hide.
He turned toward the door, and when he saw the hijackers who had thrown me into the sea, his composure completely shattered.

“Wendy, what do you mean by all this?”
I hadn’t fully recovered yet, but I had pushed myself to this point.
I pulled a chair over and collapsed into it, gasping for breath before responding.
“I don’t mean anything.”
“I just think the truth about the crash should be known.”
“And the true face of you, Howard, should be known as well.”
