Chapter 11
Sheila suddenly looked up and glared at Lindsey. “It was you, wasn’t it
She had clearly left the necklace with Lindsey yesterday. Obviously, Lindsey was playing tricks on her.
Lindsey blinked, her expression seemingly innocent. “Sheila, what are you talking about? That necklace was a gift from Grandpa to you. What could 1 possibly have done!”
Sheila’s eyes burned with anger, but she didn’t dare to admit she had handed the necklace to Lindsey. If she did, it would confirm that her earlier claim about the necklace being stolen was a lie.
She crumpled the paper in her hands, her face full of grievance as she turned to Claude, “Grandpa, I didn’t…
Claude sighed. “If you didn’t like it, you could’ve just said so. Why do you have to do this? I’m so disappointed in you.”
Shaking has head, Claude leaned on his cane and walked away with the butler’s support.
On the way, the butler, Andrew, asked, “Mr. Riley, this
is whole situation seems suspicious. Why are you so certain Ms. Jennings is behind it!”
From what he had observed. Sheila’s reaction to discovering the corgi didn’t seem staged.
Claude stopped in his tracks and gazed up at the sky. “Lindsey’s grown up. Those who’ve done wrong deserve their punishment.”
Andrew frowned, pondering for a moment before seerning to understand
In the hall. Matt watched the dran unfold with great interest. “Those two sisters are both good at acting. So, Shawn, which one are you here for?
Shawn shot him a cold glance and didn’t reply.
Matt carried on anyway. Tm guessing Lindsey. Sure, they’re both pretending, but Lindsey’s expressions come across more natural, less annoying Watching her win is actually kind of satisfying.
“But Sheila” She’s fake and over the top. Just hearing her talk irritates me.”
Shawn’s expression softened, and he glanced approvingly at Matt. “Smart”
Matt caught on and grinned. “Mostly because Lindsey’s prettier
Shawn smiled. With the drama settling down, he was about to approach Lindsey for a chat when Olivia beat him to it.
“Lindsey,” Olivia said, “what just happened was Sheila’s fault. She wronged you, but don’t be upset. On such an important occasion, let’s not make things too awkward for the family.”

Lindsey frowned slightly, sensing something sinister behind Olivia’s smile. Her guard went up as she declined, “It’s fine. I believe Sheila didn’t mean any harm. I appreciare the thought, but I’ll pass on the wine.”
Lindsey could pretend to be kind and forgiving, fon
Olivia bit her lip and pressed on. “Lindsey, if you don’t drink this, I’ll take it as you’re still holding a grudge against Shella. Are you still angry with
her!
Lindsey smiled, her suspicion toward Olivia growing. “Ms. Jennings, you’re overthinking it. I just don’t like drinking–it leads to trouble. If there’s nothing else. Il be heading off now.”
She turned to leave, but Olivia grabbed her arm. “Lindsey, please, du me a favor: If you don’t drink this, I’ll feel terrible. Your dad will probably think I’m useless, unable to make family member happy.-”
Olivia spoke with a sorrowful expression, her eyes glistening as if tears were about to fall. To any onlooker, it seemed as though Lindsey had wronged her.
Matt watched with amused interest and said, “Well, I was wrong. It’s not just the two sisters who are good at acting–this whole family is”
Shawn’s expression grew

Lindsey noticed more and more people glancing in their direction and realized she couldn’t keep refusing. Reluctantly, she accepted the glass of

wine Olivia had handed her.
She lifted the glass to her lips, took a tiny sip, and handed it back.
Olivia was dissatisfied. “Lindsey, what was that? A sip like that is practically nothing. Are you still looking down on me?”
Lindsey inwardly rolled her eyes. “Yes, I’ve always looked down on you”
Outwardly, though, she smiled brightly. “Of course not, Ms. Jennings. Thinking that way would be underestimating yourself. I’m just not much of a drinker, so don’t push me too hard.”
Olivia studied Lindsey for a moment and then begrudgingly let the matter drop
“Oh, Lindsey. I’m tied up right now. Could you fetch the tripod from the storage room for met We’ll need it later, Olivia said, feigning helplessness.
Lindsey scrutinized Olivia, who just gave her alcohol and then tried to send her to the storage room. Clearly, there was some scheme at play.
“What‘ But the storage room is so dark. I’m afraid of darkness, Ms. Jennings. Did you forget? Lindsey replied, pretending to be troubled.
Olivia hesitated. “Then I have Donna get you a flashlight.”
She gestured, and Donna brought over a flashlight
Taking the flashlight, Lindsey turned away, but not before pulling out a tissue and vigorously wiping her lips. She hadn’t swallowed the wine, suspecting it might have been tampered with
As she walked ahead, someone suddenly grabbed her shoulder. Lindsey opened her mouth to scream, but a hand covered it.
A low voice sounded above her head. “Don’t be afraid. It’s me.”
Recognizing the voice. Lindsey calmed down
“Mr. Ludwig, what are you doing here?” she asked, curious why someone as important as Shawn would have time to wander around.
“Hi, Mrs. Ludwig” Mart suddenly appeared, winking at her playfully.
Caught off guard, Lindsey awkwardly responded, “Hello”
She turned to Shawn and, still startled by Matt’s sudden appearance, patted her chest. “Who is this?”
“Man Jordan. A friend of mine,” Shawn replied.
Lindsey nodded, thinking that anyone who could stand beside Shawn must be extraordinary
“Wait, is he from the Jordan family!” Lindsey asked, suddenly recalling having heard the name numerous times before.
“Mrs. Ludwig, you can call me Man, Matt said with an easygoing grin.
Lindsey felt a bit embarrassed. “I’m Lindsey Riley Just call me Lindsey.”
After all, she and Shawn were only pretending to be boyfriend and girlfriend, and Lindsey thought it inappropriate to be addressed as Mrs. Ludwig
Shawn, watching the lively conversation between the two, frowned and interrupted, “Matt, go check the storage room. See what’s going on.”
He felt Matt’s presence was becoming increasingly annoying.
Mart gave Shawn a reproachful look. “Shawn, you’re ditching your friend for a girl, huh?”
Lindsey quickly stepped in. “No, wait. Eve got a better idea”
for a moments
Both men turned to look at her. With a sly smile, Lindsey extended her hand toward Matt. “Matt, can I borrow your phone for a
Taking Matt’s phone, Lindsey swiftly typed out a message to Sheila (I have the video of Lindsey at Splendid Inn that night. If you want it, come to the storage room. Let’s talk |
Once the message was successfully sent, Lindsey returned the phone to Matt,
She wasn’t worried about Sheila not taking the bait. Lindsey knew Sheila hated her enough not to pass up any opportunity to ruin her.
