Chapter 29
Seeing Lindsey spacing out at the door, Anthony impatiently urged her, “What are you standing there like a dummy for? Hurry up and say hello to
Mr. Wallace!”
Lindsey narrowed her eyes. “Mr. Wallace? She vaguely remembered him. When Olivia forced her to go on a blind date, she saw a picture of him. The CEO was known for bringing “bad luck to wives.
Lindsey’s face immediately fell. It was obvious what this dinner was about, even without much thought.
Anthony came over to pull her along. “What’s wrong with you? Why are you standing there! Didn’t you notice Mr. Wallace’s drink is empty? Go and fill it up. You need to be more observant” He smiled ingratiatingly at the man.
Lindsey felt nothing but disgast, pulled her hand away, and said coldly. I’m way too clumsy. Isn’t Sheila closer to Mr. Wallace! Wouldn’t it be better for her to pour the drink?”
After saying that, she didn’t care about the others reactions. She just pulled out a chair and sat down, quite a distance away from Mr. Wallace.
Sheila paused from her WhatsApp messaging, looked up, and said, “Lindsey, you must be kidding! I think. Mr. Wallace would find you pour much more enjoyable.”
Mr. Wallace gestured to Lindsey. “Come here, why are you sitting so far away! It’s hard for me to see you” He patted it’ll be easier for us to get to know each other.”
the chair beside him. “Sit here;
Lindsey glanced at Olivia and Sheila bluntly. “I don’t think there’s any connection to discuss with Mr. Wallace, but Sheila’s been sneaking looks at
Lindsey smirked inwardly. Since entering the room. Shell had been sneaky, up to something. Whatever it was, it likely wasn’t good, so Lindsey thought she might as well shove Mr. Wallace her way.
Sheila stiffened at Lindsey’s words and held back her rising temper. She typed the last word to Jayden in their chat, hit send, and then looked up at Lindsey
Flustered. Sheila explained, “No, Lindsey, you must have seen wrong. Mr. Wallace likes you. If you say things like that, it’ll hurt his feelings
Olivia quickly jumped in to defend, “Lindsey, today’s all about you and Mr. Wallace. If you think Sheila being here is inappropriate, we can leave and give you both some space.” She grabbed Sheila and started towards the door.
Lindsey quickly stood up and blocked their way. “Ms. Jennings, no need to rush. Honestly, I like my current boyfriend and have no plans to switch. Bபட
She glanced at Mr. Wallace and smirked, ‘Since Ms. Jennings loves matchmaking, why not set up Sheila with Mr. Wallace? She doesn’t have a boyfriend. It would make today’s efforts worthwhile.”
Anthony yelled, “Lindsey, what kind of things are you saying! Ms. Jennings is doing all this for your good. How can you say something like that?”
“She introduced me to Mr. Wallace for my benefit, but introducing Sheila to him isn’t for Sheila’s good? Or I’m not as good as Sheila in your mind?” Lindsey shot back bluntly. She thought she must have been out of her mind to this meeting.
Sheila’s eyes were already welling up with tears, ready to flow. She gripped Olivia’s arm and cried. “Mom”
Olivia put on a pitiful expression. “Anthony, don’t argue with Lindsey. It’s my fault. I just wanted to find her a good match and didn’t consider her desires. I couldn’t stand seeing her struggling with that poor guy, so I did this”
Sering Olivia cry. Anthony couldn’t keep it together and quickly held her close, comforting her, “You’ve done nothing wrong. It’s Lindsey who doesn’t appreciate it. If she wants to ruin her life, let her”
By this time, Mr. Wallace had picked up his bag and looked unhappy. “Mr. Riley, it seems I was being too sentimental. Since Ms. Riley isn’t interested, I don’t think there’s any need for this dinner.
He was upset, feeling tricked by Anthony. Not only did Lindsey have a boyfriend, but the underlying message was that even Sheila was out of his league. He thought they despised him.
Anthony quickly put on a smile and pulled Mr. Wallace back. “Mr. Wallace, please calm down. Lindsey is a bit stubborn and might have offended you with her words. Please forgive her, she just doesn’t realize how great you are.” Anthony kept apologizing.
Olivia quietly signaled to Sheila, who took out her phone and sent a message to Jayden: Mr. Wallace is about to leave, hurry up, or you’ll miss the chance to play the hero and save the day.]
Chapter 29
Lindsey glanced at these people with their intentions and let out a cold laugh. “Dad, are you okay with someone around your age calling you dad? Doesn’t that bother you?” Lindsey’s comment made Mr. Wallace, who had just calmed down, lose his temper again.
At this point, nothing Anthony said made a difference. Mr. Wallace wore a stem expression as he pulled his arm out of Anthony’s grip. “Mr. Riley, a forced relationship won’t end well, so let’s just drop this!”
After Mr. Wallace left, the once noisy room immediately fell silent. Anthony glared at Lindsey, Olivia and Sheila were upset. They thought. ‘How are we supposed to carry on with the plan now that Mr. Wallace was gone?
Lindsey smirked and said casually, “Dad, I’ve got some things to handle, so I’m heading out now!
“Stop right there!” Anthony shouted from behind.
Lindsey didn’t stop walking, and Anthony’s anger continued to climb quickly. Lately, Lindsey had gotten increasingly good at doing things that caused him embarrassment.
He couldn’t stand it anymore and grabbed Lindsey in the hallway. “Get in here, you’re not going anywhere today! You’re getting out of control
Lindsey frowned and tried to break free, but Anthony held her tightly, forcefully dragging her into the private room. Annoyed, Lindsey yanked her arm hard, causing Anthony to stumble. “What are you doing?” Lindsey asked.
Olivia quickly helped Anthony up, looking worried. She questioned Lindsey. “Lindsey, even if you’re unhappy with your dad, you can’t act like this. Your dad is getting older, and he can’t easily recover from any injuries. Why don’t you care at all!”
Lindsey was speechless. When Anthony grabbed her, his grip was strong, not something you’d expect from an older person. She looked at them coldly without saying a word.
“Darling, what’s wrong?” A deep, pleasant voice sounded above her. Lindsey was just about to turn her head when she was unexpectedly pulled into a hug. The familiar scent of pine filled her senses, and her eyes brimmed with tears.
