Chapter 61
Leonardo De Luca.
I watch as Matteo’s grip on Alessia loosens a tiny bit as Russo steps forward, holding out his hand. “You could’ve talked to Leo about this instead of stabbing him in the back like this.”
The gun on Alessia’s neck has now slipped off and it’s angled at the wall. I stare back at her, those dark brown eyes filled with terror but she knows what she has to do.
She’s strong.
I gave her the smallest nod and my thumb subtly flicked against the safety latch of my gun as Matteo started talking again, mufling the sound.
“Dad can’t even trust me to manage things over there.” He bellows again. “And here you are, parading this goddamn mansion of yours and those goddamn cars. Yo-
Alessia’s hand flies from Matteo’s wrist as she kicks the life out of his balls until Matteo is screaming from the pain. I raised my gun towards him, taking a second to aim and shoot.
Father would forgive me for this. He has to. It’s either him or me right now. But then I hear two gunshots.
Two, gunshots! I was only fired once.
Matteo and Alessia clutter to the ground in a loud struggle. Alessia releases a loud cry as they hit the ground.
My hands shook terribly. Everything is now moving in slow motion as Russo yells, picking up his gun as he rushes over to the scene. Red blood pools around the corner and bile rises in my throat. I have no idea who’s hurt.
I don’t know who’s bleeding out on my kitchen floor, I don’t know if Matteo hit Alessia.
I don’t know if I hit Alessia
Fuck Fuck. Fuck!
Alessia Guzman
All I could hear was the loud ringing that vibrated in my ear drums. They ached. Oh God. They ached so much.
Pressure begins to build inside my head and everything slows down, so slowly that I can only see a fraction through my blurry vision.
Matteo’s body collapses on top of me and we both hit the floor with a heavy thud. Blood coats my hands, my face and wondered where they all came from.
I blinked rapidly, over and over to try to get my vision to clear because I couldn’t see a damn thing except for the splatter of
blood on the floor.
My stomach knots inside me and I resisted the urge to vomit. I can feel my heartbeat rattle inside my chest like an animal trying to get out of its cage and I still don’t know if I’m hurt yet.
Two gunshots went off. Leonardo had the gun aimed straight at Matten but Matteo’s gun was still pointed slightly at me.
Matteo’s body feels stupidly heavy on top of mine, noticing that his gun has now slid across the floor and is out of reach. After a few moments, I can hear the muffled sound of someone outing in clear distress.

1 twist my head to glance at Matteo, Crimson blood is pouring from his mouth and he is barely able to move he’s attempting to clutch his stomach or his chest. I don’t know which.
The ringing in my ears and shouting continues and I see a pair of legs beside me. Someone slides their arms underneath my arms and tugs me from underneath Matteo, smearing ruby–red blood across the marble floor.
A face appears in front of mine. Russo.
His lips moved but I could hear a thing he was saying.
Russo frowns and then looks down at my arm, where I was wearing that cardigan. He peels it from my shoulders and he exhales a curse word because I can work out the words from his lips.
I attempt to glance over my shoulders at whatever he’s cursing at but he swipes my cheeks so I don’t look. His eyes roamed my face, keeping it in place before he glanced at my arm again. I couldn’t even feel anything. My whole body felt numb
Did I get hit?
“Al” He says as my eyes fall heavy. “Deep breaths.”
I didn’t even realize that I was breathing rapidly and heavily unt he said so and
I realized that my chest was about to
explode. He swipes his hand along my cheekbone, blood now coating his hands and I wondered if the blood was mine or
Matteo’s
“Alessia look at me.”
Did he kill Matteo? Is he dead?
That cool barrel of the gun that was pressed to my neck. I squeezed my eyes shut as Russo bundled me into his arms.
“It’s okay.” He whispers. “I’ve got you. I’ve got you!”
I don’t know how long we stay like this but enough for the ringing to stop and the room to stop spinning. Finally moving back to a normal pace and my breathing has calmed. Russo smoothes back my hair.
Someone stands beside us but I don’t glance at whoever it is because I’m shaking against Russo, shaking with confusion and frustration and even guilt.
I caused this!
I shouldn’t have opened that goddamn door!
I may not know much about Matteo but he was Leonardo’s brother. They grew up together. Why would he do something
like this!
I tried to resist the urge to blame myself because I knew he would’ve killed me in one second without blinking an eye. I shivered at the thought and closed my eyes again.
“Where’s he?” Russo asked calmly. “He’s gone.”
“Gone”
“Dead”
My teeth clamped down on my bottom lip and I buried my head into Russo’s neck.

Chapter 61
He’s dead. He’s dead. My stomach lurches and twists again and force myself not to throw up because I need to keep it together. I need to keep it together.
“Alenia got hit,” Russo said.

Leonardo kneels beside me, the fabric over his knees now soaked with blood.
“Where
“Her arm,” Russo sail with a harsh whisper.
“The bullet grazed her arm.” “Just a graze?
Russo hums in response. “Just a graze,”
I peel my eyes from the floor, feeling a single tear roll down my cheek. What’s happening? How did I get myself in the middle of this mess! A mess first created by my father.
I just wanted things to go smoothly. No violence.
No aggression.
