Chapter 40
Chapter 40
Today is the day I begin my work at the pack’s hospital. As I stand before the mirror, staring at my reflection, I can’t quite process the max of emotions swirling inside me Joy) Nervousnew? Or is it a pang of regret?
Bring a brain surgeon is my passion. Before marrying Lucian and becoming his Luna, I was Ebra, the renowned brain surgeon. While I don’t receive much recognition from my family, the hospital acknowledges my skill. There, I’m not seen as just a weak omega but as a competent, respected doctor.
But after marrying Lucian, I find that I can’t balance being the Lura of the Moonfang Pack and being Doctor Elara. One has to be set aside, and 1 have to choose between the two.
As you could probably guess, I chose the Luna position, all because I wanted to be a better wife for Lucian. But now, I’m given an opportunity to make things right. I can do what I love again, and this time, I’m doing is not for anyone else, but for myself.
A knock startles me out of my thoughts. I look toward the done, take a deep breath, and quickly rub my sweaty palms on my pants.
“Come in,” I say, clearing iny throat as I turn to face the door. Agailu enters, her bead bowed slightly. When she lifts her gaze to meet mine, my stomach drops. 1 instinctively step back, covering my chest with my hands.
› voice trembling just a little, betraying the uncase 1 feel.
Tve already taken my bath and dressed; there’s no need for you to assist me,” I say, my v
Agatha’s expression doesn’t falter for a moment as she walks in. Her steps are light against the marble floor, and her posture is straight, as if she hasn’t noticed my reaction at all.
“Good morning. Madam, I hope you slept well,” Agatha says, her tone professional and cold, sending a shiver down my spine. I still recall the discomforting moment when we were in the bathroom. She had insisted on taking my bath, her words blunt:
“Open your legs, Madam. I need to clean the inside of your thighs thoroughly, and I’ll need to wash down there too. Heat creeps onto my face as 1 shake my head to get rid of the embarrassing thoughts.
“G–good morning” Clearing my throat, 1 reply with a stiff smile, my eyes shifting to the item in her hand. It was then I realize she’s holding something wrapped up. A gift?
“You have a great sense of style, Madam. I guess you really didn’t need my help that day.” She says in approval, her eyes sweeping over the clothes I’m wearing. I’ve kept on black pants, a white button dress shin, and copped it off with short heck
“Thank you. Agatha 1 blush and rub the hack of my head, secretly happy that she said that. Firstly, because I was actually hoping to make a good impression on my first day of work and secondly, because that means she wouldn’t need to take my bath anymore!
“Here” she says, stepping closer and gently placing the neatly wrapped gift into my hands. “The Alpha wanted me to give this to you. He says it’s a token of good luck for your first day. He believes you’ll do great, and you shouldn’t be nervous.”
My mouth falls open in surprise as 1 stare at the gift in my hands. Damien… gave me a gift? The first time someone has ever thought to gift me something is from my mate
Til take my leave now, Madam” Agatha says, her voice calm and professional, but there’s a subtle shift in her expression, a trace of something softer. I look up to find a faint, almost imperceptible smile tugging at her lips before she turns and exits, leaving me alone with the unexpected gift in my hands
For a moment, I simply stand there, my heart fluttering in my chest. I can’t find the words to express what I’m feeling. My fingers tremble as I peel the sticker off the gift, my curiosity piqued. As 1 unwrap it. I find a neatly handwritten note tucked inside.
“Hey, letle mate. I hope you like what I got for you. This is my first time buying a gift for a woman, and let’s just say Martha’s advice was terrible- honestly, she’s probably trying to sabotage me. After much back and forth, I finally settled on this. Sorry I couldn’t be there to give it to you in person–1 had to run off to one of those exciting meetings (lucky me, right?). Anyway, I’ll see you soon. XoXo from your Hot, Sexy Alpha (don’t forget in
on the note
I blink for a moment, trying to process everything at once, and then I sell, rolling my eyes at the ridiculous words written on
This is utterly ridiculous, I mutter under my breath, tearing off the wrapping to reveal a small, elegant box. As I lift the lid, a gasp escapes my lips Inside lies a beautiful bracelet.
The bracelet is simple yet stunning A thin silver band with a small sapphire stone in the center, surrounded by tiny, subtle diamonds. It’s elegant ban not overly flashy–perfectly fitting for me. I think, as my fingers trace the smooth surface.

I take a deep breath and slide the bracelet onto my wrist, feeling its cool touch against my skin. My head this slightly, and a smile pulls at my lips. my eyes sparking as my heart flusters for some unknown reason. It’s just a bracelet. That’s why I’m happy. It’s nothing more, I can’t fall for Damien, and I most definitely can’t be his Luna..
“And yet, you’re smiling like an idiot My wolf, Ayla, suddenly chimes in, and 1 freeze, my eyes going with Damien!
Before I can respond,
, she goes silent again, leaving me flustered and unsure of what to say.
I freeze for a moment, still processing Ayla’s words.
wide. This girl only speaks when it has to do
Before I can say anything. Martha steps inside, her face lighting up with a wide smile that seems almost contagious,
- ng. Elara. Are you ready?” she asks her tone cheerful and warm. “I want us to go to work together, I can introduce you to everyone
“Good morning. there”
I nod, cursing Ayla silently before getting up and adjusting my shin. “Yeah, let’s go, I manage to say, offering a smile that feels slightly forced, but Martha doesn’t seem to notice.
As she turns to head out. I glance down at the bracelet one more time, my heart giving a small skip. What am I getting myself into?
