Chapter 33
“Are you really willing to help Lindsey? She doesn’t have any skills right now; she’s not Elaine,” the man in the suit said seriously.
He had already looked into it. Lindsey was just an ordinary rich girl with no special talents except in jewelry design. Back then, Elaine was a true genius; Lindsey couldn’t even compare. Besides, in their organization, jewelry design was of no value at all.
Mr. Grier calmly poured a cup of coffee for the man and expressed his thoughts at a leisurely pace, “Z, after all these years, you are still so impatient. Have you forgotten the organization’s rules?
“As long as the necklace is in her hands, we have a reason to support her! Dennis must have his reasons for giving it to her!”
The man wasn’t convinced and argued, “I’ve checked Lindsey was born into an unknown family. Her father always hung out with his mistress and never put much effort into her upbringing. Even if she was talented, that potential is long gone!”
In truth, Z had no respect for Anthony and couldn’t understand why Elaine would be interested in such a loser.
“What did you say? A mistress? You mean the scumbag who ruined Elaine’s life also cheated?” Mr. Grier squinted, stood up, and picked up his medicine box to leave. “I’d better go teach that man a lesson!”
Z chuckled and didn’t stop him. “You’d better do it quietly, so you don’t get caught!”
As he reached the door, Mr. Grier turned back slowly. “Why didn’t you hold me back?” He sat down, bubbling with regret. “If I had known things would end up like this, I would have brought Elaine back years ago!”
“Don’t even think about it. If Elaine doesn’t want you to find her, you could turn the Earth upside down and still not find her!”
Mr. Grier sighed and changed the subject. “Even if Lindsey doesn’t know much right now, we’ve got her back, right? I think she’s smart. With some effort, she should manage just fine. At worst, we’ll just keep her away from the core of the organization.”
Z scoffed, “Let me make this clear. If she doesn’t earn my respect, I don’t care what she’s holding. I won’t follow her orders!”
Mr. Grier chuckled, “That’s a given.” Handing the organization to someone incompetent worried him.
As soon as Lindsey got back to the hospital, Henry came over. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something but was too shy to speak.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Grier has agreed. You can focus on being with Claire now,” Lindsey said.
Jeffrey chimed in from the side. “You should appreciate Lindsey this time. If it weren’t for her, my grandfather wouldn’t have come out of retirement. Anyway, I know my limits; I don’t have that kind of pull!”
Over the years, he must have taken patient scans to Mr. Grier hundreds of times. Yet each time, he would drive Jeffrey away without even a glance.
Sitting on the bench in the hospital corridor, Jeffrey kept glancing at Lindsey again and again. Feeling awkward, Lindsey shifted closer to Shawn, seeking some comfort.
“Stop staring. No matter how much you look, she’s still not yours,” Shawn said as he pulled Lindsey into his arms in a possessive manner, casting Jeffrey a sharp look.
“Shawn, don’t be so stingy. Just looking isn’t going to do anything. It’s not like she’s going to fall in love with me just because I glanced a few times,” Jeffrey said with a cocky grin that seemed to invite a punch.
Shawn lifted Lindsey and moved her from his left side to his right, completely cutting off Jeffrey’s view.
At that moment, Lindsey stuck her head out. “Mr. Yarnell, do you know what organization Mr. Grier is talking about? It sounds impressive.”
Jeffrey paused and then shook his head. “I’ve never heard my grandfather mention it before, but I guess it might be connected to his sudden
retirement.
Lindsey nodded, thinking Jeffrey’s guess seemed somewhat reasonable. With that thought, she looked up at Shawn. “Mr. Ludwig, can I go see Dennis again?”
“Probably not. He traveled abroad a while ago, and now just isn’t the right time, Shawn replied.
Lindsey blinked. “Why isn’t it a good time?”

Chapter 33
“That’s what Dennis said,” Shawn replied.
Lindsey let out a sigh, wondering why everyone liked to be so secretive. Shortly after, Mr. Grier arrived at the hospital, but to Lindsey’s surprise, someone was with him.
She looked shocked as she said. “Is it you?” Z’s expression wasn’t great, and he just nodded slightly in response, without saying a word.
The other person was indifferent towards her, so Lindsey didn’t bother to warm up to a cold shoulder and quietly sat playing on her phone. Z glanced at her, looking down at her even more, thinking she was wasting her time.
With Mr. Grier stepping in, Claire’s surgery was successful. As they left the operating room, he advised, “We need to closely watch tonight. Only after getting through this critical period can we say she’s truly out of danger.”
Henry nodded repeatedly, his eyes moist with joy, thanking him over and over.
He stood in front of Lindsey and bowed deeply. “Ms. Riley, if it weren’t for you, Claire might not have survived. I promise, whatever you ask of me in the future, I won’t hesitate to comply!”
If Lindsey hadn’t brought the siblings out of their home, if Lindsey hadn’t found a famous doctor, Claire wouldn’t have survived.
Lindsey smiled and looked at Mr. Grier, “You should thank Mr. Grier. He was the one who did the surgery on Claire. I just talked a bit. It’s nothing.”
“Ms. Riley, you’re too modest.” Henry had heard from the attending doctor that Mr. Grier hadn’t left his retreat for over twenty years, and his presence here was thanks to Lindsey’s efforts.
Just then, Mr. Grier walked over. “Lindsey, do you have some time? I’d like to invite you for a meal. Would you join me?”
There was no way Lindsey could refuse, so she quickly said, “Mr. Grier, what are you talking about? If anyone should be inviting you to dinner, it’s me!” She looked hesitantly at the stern–faced man in the suit nearby, instinctively feeling he would join them.
Mr. Grier laughed heartily, “You’re underestimating me! Do you think I’m so strapped for cash that I can’t even afford to treat you to a meal? Let’s go. I’ve already reserved a table.”
Mr. Grier pushed Lindsey towards the door, then suddenly remembered something and called back. “Hey, Jeffrey and Shawn, you two come along too!”
Jeffrey suddenly perked up, bouncing after them. Honestly, he was curious about that organization. During the meal, Jeffrey might even get to hear some gossip. Maybe he could uncover the secrets behind his grandpa’s twenty–year seclusion.
