Chapter 35
Lindsey smiled slightly, “You don’t need to worry about it, Uncle Z.” She still has a little savings.
Unexpectedly, Z shot a glance at her and Shawn, disdain evident in his voice. He said, “Just make sure you’re not putting on a cute act to ask your little boyfriend for money. Luminova don’t need that kind of asset.”
Lindsey wasn’t annoyed; she continued to smile, “Funny, because I can’t stand ‘Luminova‘ having assets like that either.”
Z huffed, finally falling silent.
Shawn smiled and served Lindsey a piece of fish, the bones expertly removed.
Lindsey lowered her head and ate, inexplicably feeling that the fish was particularly delicious today.
The next morning, as Lindsey came downstairs, she found her dad, Anthony, along with Olivia and Sheila, having breakfast.
Hearing her approach, they glanced up briefly and then returned to eating. No one called her over to join them.
Lindsey wasn’t bothered; this had happened many times before. In this house, it felt like she was the only outsider.
Just as she reached the door, Anthony called out, “Hold it! Where do you think you’re going?”
Lindsey turned around. “I have things to do.”
“What things? Are you planning to hang out with that broke guy again?”
Anthony slammed his fork down, exclaiming loudly, “I won’t allow you to see him. Are you expecting me to support you forever, doing nothing?”
Lindsey frowned, feeling irritated. “Can you stop making random assumptions about other people? Who I date is my business!” With that, she turned to leave.
But Anthony grabbed her wrist, anger flashing in his eyes. “You really are getting more and more out of control. I’m your dad; I have the right to manage you.”
“Do you even act like a dad?” Lindsey shot back, a cold laugh escaping her lips.
Lindsey thought, ‘You are always looking to profit from my marriage. Isn’t that just selling me off?‘
Anthony widened his eyes and pushed her onto the sofa. “Starting today, you’re not going anywhere. After Mrs. Parker’s birthday party, you’ll obediently go to Luminova to work.”
“I’m not going.” Lindsey turned her face away defiantly.
“What do you want to do then? Hanging out with that poor guy won’t get you anywhere! Your sister has already asked to work at Luminova. Why can’t you be more aspirant?”
The more Anthony spoke, the angrier he got. “You’re both my daughters; how can there be such a huge difference? Lindsey, I won’t support a lost cause. Stay at home for a few days and think about how to please Mrs. Parker!”
Lindsey was furious now. Standing up from the sofa, she declared sternly, “When I say I’m not going, I mean I’m not going to Luminova and definitely not to that birthday party!”
With that, she shoved past Anthony and headed for the door.
Olivia stepped in to pacify Anthony. “Anthony, don’t be too hard on her. She’s just young and stubborn. Girls her age can’t stand hearing advice. If she doesn’t want to work, it might just mean she’s still playful. Once she realizes how tough life is, she’ll understand your good intentions.”
After a moment, Anthony replied, “let her experience the challenges of life?”
Olivia nodded with a smile. “Yes, exactly. I’ll freeze her bank accounts right away.” Anthony finally caught on. “Once she runs out of money, she’ll come crawling back to me.”
Satisfied, Olivia started cleaning the dishes, and Sheila rushed in after her. “Mom, are you really going to let that brat Lindsey into the company?”
“Sweetheart, if Lindsey doesn’t join the company, how can we expose her mistakes? How do we officially make her give up her shares?”
Olivia patted Sheila’s hand, her eyes full of strategy. “You’re working in the company, and your uncle will help. And since that old witch, Florence,

isn’t around anymore, isn’t this the perfect opportunity to crush Lindsey and win people over?”
Sheila giggled, “Mom, you’re so smart.”
Meanwhile, Lindsey followed the address to Quinn’s house and knocked on the door, but there was no answer. Was she not home?
Just then, a neighbor peeked out from next door. “Young lady, who are you looking for?”
Lindsey smiled, asking, “Excuse me, is Quinn living here?”
The neighbor lit up with a big smile. “Yes. She lives here! Can you believe a girl her age is acting like that? Such a waste! All her reputation is gone; she spends her days drowning in booze and is barely living like a decent human being!”
As the neighbor spoke, she walked up to Quinn’s door and knocked loudly. “She’s probably still hungover, but if you can catch her, it’s all down to fate. By the way, why are you looking for her?”
The neighbor sized Lindsey up, who looked pretty fresh and vibrant, even a bit prettier than Quinn. The neighbor raised an eyebrow and thought, ‘She isn’t here for anything shady too, is she?‘
Lindsey sensed the neighbor’s judgment and quickly responded with a chuckle, “I just have a job offer for her. Living like this can’t be good for her.”
The neighbor awkwardly chuckled, “Oh, right! So young, and she could turn her life around, right? I’m just worried if she continues like this, she’ll cause trouble for everyone in the building…”
Lindsey couldn’t help but smirk at the neighbor’s honesty. Noticing that she had said too much, the neighbor clammed up.
They knocked for a while before someone finally opened the door.
Quinn lazily lifted her head. “Who are you? I don’t take guests. If you’re looking for a good time, turn left for the club.”
The neighbor rolled her eyes, unimpressed. “Someone’s here looking for you.” With that, she headed back into her place.
Lindsey frowned at the woman before her. Quinn’s hair was a mess, clearly neglected for ages. She wore a stained pajama top, and mismatched slippers, one with a sock on and the other bare. Overall, she had a languishing vibe.
“What do you want?” Quinn asked, her tone indifferent, then let out a loud burp laced with alcohol.
After holding her breath for a moment, Lindsey spoke up. “Ms. Quinn, I want to sign you to my company.”
“What company? Is it the flower club or the cloud club?”
Lindsey’s mouth fell open.
“No, you’re misunderstanding! I want you to act; my company is a legitimate entertainment agency.”
Quinn finally gave Lindsey a half–hearted look and asked, “What’s the name of your company?”
“Elaindsey Productions,” Lindsey replied.
“Never heard of it,” Quinn shrugged, then leaned in closer, raising an eyebrow. “Do you know about my past?”
Lindsey nodded.
Quinn’s demeanor shifted sharply. “My past is so terrible, so why would you want me to act? Do you think I’m washed up but still have just enough worth to be used?” Her voice suddenly pierced through the hallway, echoing her anger.
