Chapter 43
Jayden gritted his teeth, unable to believe that Lindsey had managed to restore the edited video. Now, being humiliated in front of everyone, where could he possibly hide his face?
At this point, he could only keep up his nonsense. “I gave it to you before the video started, of course you didn’t see it.”
Lindsey tilted her head, scoffing. “Jayden, if you didn’t give it to me, then just admit it. Saying you did only makes you look fake!”
Jayden’s hand, hanging by his side, tightened into a fist. He felt embarrassed beyond belief.
Fortunately, Anthony stepped in just in time to smooth things over. “Lindsey, how can you say that about Jayden? If you watch the video, you’ll see how sincere he was.
“Your boyfriend didn’t show any respect. Jayden didn’t have a chance to give it to him before he left. Who’s to blame for that?”
Olivia stood up to pour Jayden some tea, but her words were aimed at Lindsey.
“Lindsey, don’t be so hard on him. Jayden’s busy all day, it’s normal for him to forget things. Don’t make a big deal out of this.”
Lindsey felt a surge of frustration. The way she said it made it sound like she was the one causing trouble. It felt like everyone here, except her, was backing Jayden. No matter how big his mistakes, they would cover for him.
Suddenly, the air in the room felt suffocating. She stood up. “If there’s nothing else, I’m going upstairs.”
After Jayden left, Anthony, Olivia, and Sheila began discussing the situation.
Sheila spoke up. “Mom, do you think Shawn could actually come up with a check? Maybe he’s not as simple as he seems?”
Anthony thought for a moment and shook his head. “I don’t think so. Didn’t Jayden say that check was fake? I think he’s just willing to throw away 600 thousand dollars to get more in return.”
Olivia furrowed her brows, still concerned. “I also thought he seemed quite impressive in the video. Should we look into him further?”
She turned to Sheila. “Sheila, don’t you know an amazing detective? Could you ask him to help us look into it?”
Sheila hesitated, clearly not thrilled. She didn’t know the detective that well–it was just a contact–and hiring him wasn’t cheap. She mumbled, “Mom, I don’t have that much money…”
Both women turned their gaze toward Anthony, who pretended not to see them. “He’s just a little thug. He said it himself–no car, no house. Why bother investigating? It’s a waste of time.”
With that, Anthony stood up, took his cup of tea, and left.
Olivia pursed her lips and grabbed Sheila’s hand. “Don’t listen to your dad. Just to be safe, we should still check it out.”
“But Mom…
“Don’t worry. I’ll handle it at the company and transfer some money to you.”
“Mom, you’re amazing!” Sheila grinned and, laughing, rested her head on Olivia’s shoulder.
For the next half month, Jayden didn’t come around to disturb Lindsey, probably because he was too embarrassed after being exposed. Lindsey, on the other hand, enjoyed the peace and quiet.
During this time, she managed to go through most of the content on the USB drive, with only some complicated sections left.
After checking, she realized that there were a few points she wasn’t sure about. It seemed like she would have to visit Z soon.
She’d also gone through the medical books from Mr. Grier, and it was about time for another visit.
Stretching. Lindsey realized she’d been cooped up at home for too long, without enough exercise–she was starting to feel like she was growing mold As she opened her door, a figure darted past the corner.
She quickly stepped back into her room and shut the door.

Chapter 43
That was another thing that had been bugging her–Olivia had been acting suspiciously lately, hanging around her door like a thief. What was she up to?
Lindsey decided that, whatever Olivia was planning, she had better be prepared. After tidying up the room, she headed out.
On the way, she received a message from Quinn, providing her with the new address. Thinking it had been almost a month, Lindsey understood why Quinn was anxious.
She took a cab to Guathio, and when she arrived at the villa, she knocked on the door, scanning the area with curiosity. She noticed the lock had been replaced with a fingerprint scanner.
Above the door, there was a small camera. She looked up, and just as she did, a robotic voice sounded. “Face recognition failed. Please leave immediately. Otherwise, the expulsion mode will activate in five seconds.”
‘Expulsion mode? What is that?‘ she thought. Before she could figure it out, water suddenly shot out from several spouts on the wall.
“Whoosh!” The powerful water flow drenched her from head to toe, and the pressure was enough to sting.
Lindsey thought, “… What the heck?” Was this a spy movie?
When Z opened the door, he couldn’t help but laugh when he saw Lindsey soaked to the bone, “Hahaha… Looks like my setup worked perfectly.”
Lindsey, deadpan, replied, “Uncle Z, you’re really trying to kill me with kindness.”
Z handed her a thick towel. “Wipe yourself off. If you had just let me know beforehand, you wouldn’t have come barging in like this. You’re acting more like a tomboy than a girl.”
Lindsey was done with Z’s sarcasm. She followed him inside and found the yard filled with strange contraptions she didn’t understand.
At that moment, a middle–aged man, dripping with sweat, walked out of the villa and greeted Z. “Z, is this the ‘Lindsey‘ you were talking about? The daughter of Elaine?” The man stared at Lindsey curiously for a long time.
Lindsey recognized the nickname and figured out who he was. Z introduced him, “This is Miguel Moore. He used to be a member of Stargazer and is great at making mechanisms. The contraption by the door was his doing.”
Lindsey’s eyes lit up. Mechanisms? That could come in handy if she ever needed to cause trouble.
She flashed a sweet smile and said softly, “Hello, Uncle Moore.”
“Hey!” Miguel chuckled. The more he looked at Lindsey, the more he liked her. “This girl’s easy on the eyes. Unlike Elaine, who always had that tight little frown on her face. She looked like a robot.”
Lindsey tilted her head. “Uncle Moore, my mom never smiled back then?”
“Of course not! I never saw her smile. She was under a lot of pressure back then. She was always so worried. Even I felt the weight of it just by looking at her.”
Lindsey imagined what Elaine must have been like at that time and realized more and more how little she understood her mother.
- shot Lindsey a look and interrupted, “Alright, Miguel, stop talking. Let her go take a bath before she catches a cold and we have to look after her!” He said this with a disgusted tone,
Lindsey stopped just a few steps from the bathroom and, looking embarrassed, said, “Uncle Z, I don’t have anything to change into….”
“Ugh, so troublesome! There’s a dryer in the bathroom, specially for situations like this!”
Lindsey thought, ‘Should I praise them for being so thoughtful?‘
