4 Chapter 4
After listening to Kellan’s words, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“Didn’t I just say that I’ll get the money once the contract is
signed?”
“Now it’s you guys who are reluctant to sign. If Xanthe and the baby in her belly end up getting whacked, don’t blame it on me.”
Garrison’s face darkened, and it took him a while to squeeze out a few words through gritted teeth.
“I hope you can keep your word.”
I smiled noncommittally.
“Father–in–law, I, Bram, am a businessman. I do have some basic integrity.”
“Fine, I’ll sign”
Just as my father–in–law was about to sign the contract, their son Kellan jumped out again.
“Dad, don’t sign!”
I glanced at this man who always prevented me from making money, my fingers cracking.
He snatched the pen from Garrison’s hand and threw it on the ground violently.
“Dad, he’s not even willing to save his own darling child. Do you
think we can trust him?”

4 Chapter 4
After listening, Garrison pondered for a moment, seemingly
finding some sense in it. He then turned to ask me.
“Bram, can we negotiate? We’ll sign this contract after we rescue Xanthe. I promise you…”
“No way.” I hear you, but that’s simply not acceptable.
I quickly interrupted him.
“I won’t give you a single cent unless we sign a contract first.”
Looking at his eyes gradually losing their luster, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of guilt in my heart.
I was born in a remote village and barely managed to get into college, almost missing the enrollment deadline because I couldn’t
afford the tuition.
It was Xanthe’s parents who stepped up at the crucial moment to help fund my education.
This led me to develop special feelings for their daughter.
After Xanthe and I made our relationship official, her parents didn’t look down on me because of my rural background.
Instead, they were considerate of my feelings at every turn, afraid I might feel inferior.
As he said, I didn’t spend a dime on marrying Xanthe. On the contrary, her family gave me a large sum as startup capital.
It’s fair to say that without Xanthe’s parents, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Even after the company became established, the two of them

never asked me for a penny. They even refused when I offered to buy them a house to live in.
“Bram, dear, as long as you and Xanthe have a good life together, that’s all that matters. We’re too old to bother with such things.”
And now, these understanding in–laws – one passed out from my harsh words, the other kneeling and begging me. I silently turned my head to the side, not daring to continue meeting his gaze.
At this moment, Kellan stepped up once again, helping his father–in–law who was kneeling on the ground to his feet, and patted his chest.
“Dad, someone who would abandon their darling for money isn’t worth us begging on our knees.”
After saying this, he even threw me a righteous glare.
“I’ve already sold the house and car, and barely managed to scrape together four million dollars. We can save her ourselves.”
With these words, not only did his father–in–law breathe a sigh of relief, but even the surrounding police officers gave him a thumbs
- up.
Seeing this, I just smiled calmly.
“That’s perfect, hurry up and transfer the money then.”
