Chapter 37

Setting the Trap

Elena didn’t sleep that night. She sat in her office long after everyone had left, staring at the city lights, her mind working through every possibility. Whoever was behind this wasn’t just after information—they were after control.

And she refused to let them win.

Her phone buzzed. A message from Jordan.

“I ran another check. The blackmail emails to both Michael and Ryan came from the same encrypted server. Someone went through a lot of trouble to cover their tracks.”

Elena exhaled sharply. Of course they did.

Ryan had left hours ago, but his words still echoed in her mind.

“You’re next.”

She refused to wait for the next attack. It was time to go on the offensive.

By morning, Elena was standing in the conference room with Jordan, Naomi, and a few other key executives. The tension in the air was thick.

She placed her hands on the table, meeting their gazes.

“We have a mole,” she said, voice steady but sharp. “And we’re going to flush them out.”

Naomi leaned forward. “Do we have a suspect?”

Elena glanced at Jordan, who pulled up the data on the screen. “Whoever is behind this has covered their tracks well. But there’s one thing they didn’t account for—greed.

Naomi arched a brow. “Meaning?”

Jordan clicked a file open. “We set a bait. A fake acquisition deal. Something valuable enough that anyone with inside access wouldn’t be able to resist.”

Elena’s lips curled into a smirk. “And the moment they take the bait, we’ll have them.”

Naomi nodded slowly, her eyes gleaming. “So we’re staging a trap?”

“Exactly,” Elena confirmed. “We’ll leak carefully controlled information. A confidential report that only a handful of executives will have access to. If it gets out, we’ll know exactly who’s behind it.”

Jordan tapped on his tablet. “I’ve already set up tracking alerts. The moment this file is accessed by an unauthorized source, we’ll be able to trace it.”

Naomi smirked. “Now that’s a game I like to play.”

Elena straightened. “Then let’s get started. Whoever they are, they made one big mistake—”

Her eyes hardened.

“They underestimated me.”
