Chapter 63

The Unseen Threat

Elena’s breath caught in her throat.

Everyone froze, weapons raised. The sound of the creaking floorboard echoed in the darkness. They weren’t alone.

Naomi swallowed hard. “Jordan… What do you mean we’re not alone?”

Jordan’s voice came through the earpiece, tense and urgent. “I’m picking up movement. Someone—no, something—is inside with you.”

A chilling silence followed. The air inside the abandoned station suddenly felt suffocating.

Mateo motioned for everyone to stay still. The wooden floor groaned again.

Then—a faint shuffle.

Not from the entrance. From deeper inside.

A Presence in the Dark

The group instinctively formed a defensive circle, scanning the dimly lit space. The building had once been a maintenance station, but time had left it in decay. Dust floated in the air, disturbed by something unseen.

Amira adjusted her grip on her rifle. “We need light.”

Richard fumbled with his pack, pulling out a small flashlight. He clicked it on, sweeping the beam across the room.

The light caught something—a flicker of movement near a row of rusted lockers.

Then, nothing.

Richard narrowed his eyes. “Did you see that?”

Elena took a slow step forward. Her gut told her they weren’t dealing with something human.

Jordan’s voice came through again. “It’s… watching you. But it’s not attacking.”

A shiver ran down Elena’s spine. “Why?”

Jordan hesitated. “I don’t know.”

A Whisper in the Silence

The group held their breath, listening. Then it happened.

A whisper.

A voice, distant yet too close.

“You shouldn’t be here.”

The words sent ice through Elena’s veins.

Naomi’s hands trembled slightly. “Did you hear that?”

They all had.

Mateo aimed his rifle toward the lockers. “Show yourself!”

No response.

Then—BAM!

The nearest locker door slammed open.

The flashlight flickered. Shadows shifted unnaturally across the walls, stretching and twisting as if something was moving within them.

Amira took a step back. “This isn’t normal.”

Elena’s pulse pounded. “We need to move. Now.”

But before anyone could take another step, the shadows rushed forward.

Trapped in the Unknown

The force hit like a shockwave, knocking Richard and Naomi to the ground. The air crackled with something unseen, something unnatural.

Elena grabbed Naomi’s arm, pulling her up. “GO!”

They sprinted toward the far end of the station, where a doorway led into what looked like an old storage room. The moment Mateo crossed the threshold, the lights flickered violently—then cut out completely.

Darkness swallowed them.

Elena gasped. She couldn’t see anything. The air was heavy, thick—like something was pressing in on them.

Then, the whisper came again, closer this time.

“You don’t belong here.”

Elena fumbled for her radio. “Jordan! What the hell is this?”

Jordan’s response was static. Then a single word: “Run.”

A Desperate Escape

A new sound erupted—a low, guttural growl.

Not human.

Not even close.

Elena’s instincts screamed at her to move. “This way!” she called, grabbing Naomi’s wrist and dragging her toward the emergency exit.

Mateo and Richard covered their retreat, firing blindly into the darkness. The bullets hit something, but instead of stopping it, the shadows absorbed the impact.

A burst of cold air rushed past Elena as they reached the door.

Mateo rammed into it. “Locked!”

“Move!” Amira slammed her shoulder against the rusted handle. The door groaned—then burst open.

They tumbled outside, gasping for breath. The moment the last of them cleared the doorway, the heavy steel door slammed shut on its own.

Silence.

They turned, staring at the station’s darkened windows. Nothing moved.

But Elena knew. Whatever was inside was still there… watching. Waiting.

Jordan’s voice crackled back. “You’re clear… for now.”

Mateo exhaled sharply. “What the hell was that?”

Elena didn’t have an answer.

But one thing was clear.

They were in more danger than they’d ever imagined.
