Chapter 44
Tamara jerked her head up, her eyes wide in shock. “I never said that, Stella! Where’d you hear it?”
When Tamara denied it, Stella’s face twisted with rage as she said, “So you’re using me as your pawn?”
I grinned, watching them rip into each other, which was pure entertainment. Then I texted my lawyer, forwarded the recording, and felt damn good about it.
Tamara’s eyes welled up. “Stella, you’ve got me all wrong! I never called Charlene a homewrecker!”
“Not you? Then it was me? Tamara, I’m done with you. I shouldn’t have stuck up for you! You’re the real two–faced saint, the phony!” Stella snapped.
The thought of me suing her must’ve been weighing on Stella. She was practically screaming now.
Tamara couldn’t take the disrespect. She burst into tears. “Stella, how could you? I even asked Harlan to hire you!”
Hearing that, I chimed in, “Oh, so it was pulling strings? No wonder you’re so useless, Stella.”
With the two of them stabbing each other in the back, the whole office ground to a halt. Everyone stared, some even filming on the sly.
I watched the drama, but I didn’t lift a finger to stop it.
In my opinion, this was karma, and they deserved it.
Stella was fuming, and she said through gritted teeth, “Fine. If you’re gonna betray me, don’t blame me for exposing you. You think I don’t know…”
Tamara cut her off, her voice rising like a screeching alarm. “Stella, you’re not scared of me ratting you out to your brother?”
I caught a flicker of fear in Stella’s eyes. Then she backed down, saying, “Tamara, you win this round.”
I was stunned. From what I knew of Stella, she wasn’t the type to back off.
Plus, I was dying to hear what Stella didn’t finish saying.
Maybe she had some dirt on Tamara.
I was a little curious, but I didn’t dig deeper. After all, it was their drama, not mine.
Stella slunk back to her desk, her head held high, but her pride crushed. The office buzzed with gossip. Phones pinged nonstop, and I knew everyone was chatting about the drama.
Tamara realized it, too. She shot up, stormed out, and probably went whining to Harlan.
Sure enough, Stella got called away soon after.
When she came back, her eyes were red–rimmed, and she started packing her stuff.
Before leaving, she glared at Tamara and said, “Tamara, I should have you figured out!”
Tamara pouted, her voice all sugary. “Stella, you messed up. I was just looking out for you.”
Stella slammed the door, cutting Tamara off.
Tamara’s words caught in her throat, and she trembled with rage.
Two wrongs didn’t make a right, but they sure made a mess.
With Stella gone, the office finally quieted down. I could finally focus on the event plan.
At lunchtime, Harlan showed up at the office door. Tamara blushed, staring at him like a lovesick puppy, but Harlan called out to me.
“Charlene, time for lunch,” Harlan said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
