Chapter 9
Extra [unbing–chapter–export] Chapter
December 28, 2025.
I divorced Sebastian Clem.
The snow fell heavily that day, and I didn’t have an umbrella.
He offered to drive me home, but I shook my head.
He suggested we visit our regular café.
He remembered I loved hot cocoa with sugar and milk and the soft strawberry bread.
He recalled the loving couple from the café, wondering how they were now.

He kept talking, trying to say everything he hadn’t before.
Finally, he grew tired.
He asked, “Why aren’t you leaving?”
I answered truthfully, “I’m waiting for someone.”
He asked, “Who?”
After we split, he grew curious about my life.
Suddenly, the car headlights on the street flashed, and Lars Clarke got out, smiling, “Sis, I came to take you home.”
I didn’t hesitate anymore, rushing to him, intimately linking arms and leaving without looking back.

Sebastian Clem remained standing there alone.
Earlier, I hadn’t told Sebastian Clem.
I still prefer milk tea over hot cocoa; the café only served coffee.
The café closed down five years ago due to poor management.
Also, that loving couple divorced.
The husband was caught cheating, and the heartbroken wife returned to her family.
Lars Clarke’s POV
People say I got close to Zelene Reyes because I slightly resembled Sebastian Clem.

I turned a deaf ear to it, never responding.
Because for me, being by Zelene Reyes’s side was enough.
Regarding my status, I never dared to dream.
She is forever my golden benefactor, while I remain her loyal boyfriend.
I will stay by her side until the day she tires of me.
Time will tell everything.
They will be astounded.
No one knows.
When I was nineteen, I had a car accident.

Death was a release for me.
So I did not fear it.
Nothing in this world was worth my attachment.
But in the last second of losing consciousness.
I heard someone calling me.
The voice came from afar, unclear, like someone was crying.
She sounded desperate and scared, begging humbly, “Please… don’t leave me…”
Why?
If I died, my family would receive a large compensation, allowing them to live well and

my little sister to attend a good college.
If I died, they would lead a happy life.
So… why?
With this doubt, I survived.
Awakened fully, I regretted my reckless act.
I couldn’t afford the high medical bills from the accident, tried to run, but was stopped by the doctor.
“Someone has already paid.”
“Take care, and she will come to see you.”
I grew curious, who was she?
“Doctor, what’s her name?”

“Miss Zelene Reyes.”
Zelene Reyes, what a beautiful name.
I started paying attention to anything about her.
I knew she was married, called a shrew, had a bad reputation, I knew everything about her…
I knew that on the day it rained heavily, Sebastian Clem broke the appointment, and Zelene Reyes frantically searched the entire A City until she found me, lying in a pool of blood, with a slightly similar face to Sebastian Clem.
No one knew how helpless and desperate Zelene Reyes was at that time, thinking her willful behavior had killed Sebastian Clem, she repented in pain and regret.

She cried, my heart ached.
Even if the one she cared for wasn’t me.
Later, Zelene Reyes and Sebastian Clem divorced.
Three years passed, and we got married.
Sebastian Clem’s POV
I made a monumental mistake, one that I’d spend the rest of my life atoning for.
Which day it was, I can’t recall.
Eight years–a long time–enough to erode all passions.
Beatrice Meyer appeared just then.

Youthful and vibrant, she possessed an energy and liveliness that Zelene Reyes lacked.
Gradually, my attention was captured by Beatrice Meyer, and eventually, I was consumed by it.
I became increasingly critical of Zelene Reyes; she seemed neither mature nor composed, still like a child.
She was too willful, forbidding any woman from getting close to me, causing a scene if she found out.
She insisted I come straight home after work, preferably with a bouquet of flowers, as she adored such romance.
She wanted us to vacation in the Maldives, capturing videos and photographs to look

back on when we were old.
She wished to celebrate anniversaries annually, needing thoughtfully prepared gifts made by hand.
She said so much.
But it wasn’t until she left that I began to remember.
When did things start to change?
I think I will always recall.
2017.12.28.
I accompanied Beatrice Meyer for an abortion. She didn’t cry or cause trouble, only requested that I spend her birthday with her.

I didn’t refuse, my heart softened, and I agreed.
The rain was pouring hard that day; deep inside, a sense of impending loss lingered, as though I was going to lose something precious.
Subconsciously, I reached for my phone, discovering it was already turned off.
Beatrice Meyer appeared at that moment, diverting my attention.
I returned home before dawn the following day to find Zelene Reyes asleep on the sofa, waiting. The unease in my heart quieted then.
She seemed strange, not approaching me to sniff out women’s perfume on me, not

questioning my whereabouts when I didn’t return home–she did nothing, merely lay quietly on the sofa, never even glancing my way.
I braced for accusations, but to my surprise, she simply asked calmly.
“Do you remember what yesterday was?”
“What?”
Later, she said a lot.
We had a huge fight.
But largely, it was me being argumentative one–sidedly.
For the first time, she was so calm, she seemed unfamiliar and frightening.

She said, “Okay.”
After that day, she never bothered about me again.
She didn’t care if I came home on time after work, didn’t care if I stayed out all night, or which women I associated with…
She became sensible and considerate, becoming what I imagined.
Yet I found her… utterly unfamiliar.
The feeling of loss grew stronger.
Until I heard her say directly. “Let’s divorce.”
She didn’t stop caring.
She just didn’t love me anymore.

She withdrew all her warmth and caprices, turning rational and composed.
She once asked me, “I did as you wanted.”
“Why are you still not happy?”
Yes, why is that?
I wanted her to love me; to love me as I imagined.
But I forgot that I never loved the version of her I concocted in my mind.
I didn’t continue with Beatrice Meyer.
The year after leaving me, Beatrice Meyer snatched a new boyfriend from a good friend.
She was obsessed with stealing men until

the original girlfriend led a group to confront her, resulting in her falling to her death.
I only heard of Beatrice Meyer’s death from news broadcasts, but it didn’t matter
anymore.
This year marks the fifth year since Zelene Reyes got married.
She had adorable twin daughters.
Her husband comes home on time, bringing different flowers and preparing all sorts of surprises…
They live happily, with many photos taken.
This winter is colder than ever before.
It punishes the unfaithful.
