seen many times on Lucas‘ Instagram that the passenger seat of Mia’s car had a sticker on it that read: [Exclusive for Mia’s favorite Lucas.]
Back then, when I saw that post, I stormed over to confront Mia with my phone. I was hoping she would give me some explanation or even an excuse to appease me. But she didn’t. Instead, she was even angrier than me. “What’s the big deal? It’s just a sticker! You don’t have to be so angry! Lucas is my friend! What’s wrong with me putting a sticker on my car for my friend? If you keep acting like this, we’re done!”
When I heard the word “done“, I managed to suppress my fury, although I was about to explode with rage. Thinking back, I couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle and feel a pang of sympathy for myself. It was just a sticker, after all.
Seeing me sit in the back seat, Mia seemed displeased and spoke sarcastically, “Are you sitting in the back to make a point, aren’t you? Usually, you are eager to sit in the front passenger seat. What’s with the act today? Come on, you got thirty seconds to switch your seat!”
I knew she was giving me an out. In the past, hearing Mia say that, I would have been overjoyed and scurried to the passenger seat. But now, I just closed my eyes and said indifferently, “No need. I just want to take a nap in the back seat.”
Mia seemed to want to say something but stopped herself. She glanced at me and then focused on driving. When I opened my eyes again, it was already dark. In a daze, I looked around and realized I was still in the car. I opened the door and got out, but to my surprise, Mia was leaning against the front of the car.
Seeing me get out, she turned her head and glanced at me, saying, “Awake now? I didn’t wake you up because you were sleeping so soundly.”
“Yeah, you didn’t have to wait for me,” I said indifferently.
As I was about to leave and head upstairs, Mia grabbed my arm. “Zane, I feel like you’ve changed a lot. You seem… distant now. You used to be so clingy to me.” Mia’s words were strange. She wrapped her arms around me, her warm breath tickling the back of my neck.
I frowned slightly. “Did you drink?” I knew Mia rarely drank. If she did, it usually meant she was feeling really upset.
“Yeah, I drank a little. Zane, please don’t break up with me. I really can’t live without you.”
I didn’t respond, just gently pushed her away, and said, “Let’s go home.” But Mia seemed to have drunk too much. She lost her balance and fell to the ground.
She looked up at me with a hurt expression. “Zane, I can’t stand properly. Can you carry me?”
At that moment, I felt quite helpless, sighed, and prepared to help her up.
But at that moment, Lucas appeared out of nowhere and pushed me aside. “Zane! No matter how upset you were with her, you couldn’t push her to the ground!”

I finally gathered my wits and let out a soft chuckle, spreading my hands helplessly. Lucas had picked up Mia and carried her upstairs.
Upon seeing Lucas, Mia threw her arms around his neck and began to complain. Lucas comforted her gently while rubbing her head affectionately. And there I was, watching my girlfriend in another man’s arms, yet I felt no anger. Instead, I was strangely calm.
After cooling off downstairs for a bit, I went upstairs as well. But the scene that greeted me as I opened the door made me frown involuntarily. Mia, with her arms around Lucas‘ neck, kissed his cheek.
When Lucas saw me, his eyes were filled with triumph. “Zane, you can never compare to me. Mia always puts me before you.”
I let out a scornful laugh, changing into slippers as I spoke, “If you’re so fond of my ex–girlfriend, just have her.” I walked nonchalantly to the dining table and poured myself a glass of water.
But Lucas became furious upon hearing this. He strode over, intending to grab my collar, but I stopped him. He roared, “What are you gloating about, Zane?”
I let out a few soft chuckles and said, “Can’t stand it? Then get out of my place with your sweetheart!”
It was late at night, and he and Mia had nowhere to go. My retort left him speechless. I went straight to the master bedroom and locked the door, ignoring whatever they did outside.
Chapter 8
The next day, Mia woke me up by knocking on the door. I got up and went to wash up, finding Lucas was already gone. Mia followed closely behind me, speaking cautiously, “Zane, Lucas came over last night because he was really worried about me. We… We didn’t do anything out of line, did we?”
I nodded vaguely while brushing my teeth with my eyes closed. “No.” How could a kiss between a couple be considered out of line?
I could immediately sense her relief. Then she continued, “We still haven’t resolved our problem.”
I paused for a moment, feeling puzzled as I tried to recall. Oh, right, she was talking about our breakup. In the past, whenever we had a fight, no matter whose fault it was, I would always go out of my way to soothe Mia’s anger and make sure she didn’t stay upset overnight.
After spitting out the mouthwash, I said indifferently, “You should pack up your things in the apartment as soon as possible. I’m planning to sell it.”
When Mia heard this, her eyes filled with confusion. After pondering for a moment, she asked, “Are we moving abroad together? Have you already made plans?”
