I was momentarily stunned by Mia’s eyes, which were filled with tenderness. At that moment, I truly saw love in her eyes. In the past, I would have undoubtedly embraced her without hesitation because I had longed for it. But in just a moment, I came back to reality, kept silent, and
continued eating, ignoring her.
After the meal, Mia, in high spirits, suggested taking a walk by the river, and she pulled me out. Even at this point, I didn’t want to make things
too awkward between us.
“I’ve never joked about breaking up, Mia. You know I don’t take that lightly. My love has long been worn away. There’s no point in us continuing like this. It’s just pointless. I came here today to make things clear. Let’s consider this meal our last meal,” I said in one breath, calmly, without a
hint of reluctance.
Chapter 10
Mia kept her head down and glanced around nervously, looking like a child who had done something wrong. I paused for a moment and said, “Tomorrow, pack up your things in the apartment. Someone’s coming to see the place.”
After speaking, I took a deep breath and turned to leave. I thought Mia would give up, but she called out to me loudly, “Zane! Are you still unwilling to forgive me?”
She choked back her sobs and walked slowly towards me. “But I really can’t live without you. Please, I beg you. Forgive me just one more time, okay? The thought of you leaving me wrenches my heart.” Seeming to think of something, she began rummaging through her bag frantically.
I furrowed my brow in confusion, but soon she pulled a diamond ring out of her bag. Her hands trembling, she held it out to me. “Zane, this
time, let me propose to you, okay?”
I glanced down at the diamond ring, finding it familiar. It was the same design as the one Mia had been wearing. But this one was
second–hand. I had seen it on Lucas‘ hand before.
I lowered my head and let out a soft chuckle. As expected, Mia wouldn’t have genuine feelings towards me. She thought she could still easily appease me by showing a little affection for me.
“No way.” At that moment, a surge of anger welled up inside me for some reason.
“Mia! Are you out of your mind? How many times have I told you that we can’t get back together? Why won’t you listen when I speak calmly? Do I have to be harsh with you?” This was the first time in all the years we’d been together that I had ever lost my temper with her. Mia was startled by my outburst. She stood there, stunned, looking at me with grievance.
I irritably scratched my head and said, “Let’s just leave it at that. Hurry up and pack your things tomorrow. From now on, let’s stay away from each other and be good exes.” This time, I left resolutely, only remembering that Mia was sullen.
I still went back to the hotel. As soon as I sat down, Jason called me. “Zane, the situation is a bit urgent. You need to set off tomorrow night.”
I agreed without a moment’s hesitation. Actually, it was good to leave early and avoid further entanglement with Mia. After confirming the time, I took a shower and went to bed.
I woke up early the next morning to check on the apartment’s situation. Truthfully, I wasn’t in such a rush to sell the apartment. I had intended to sell it to leave behind my memories with Mia. But now, I completely got over it, and those memories no longer brought me pain. So today, I would let the potential buyer make a decision based on his first impression of the apartment.
I washed up and then headed out to the compound. As I opened the door, the sight before me gave me a start. Mia was slumped beside the sofa, with at least a dozen empty bottles scattered on the floor.
But at that moment, I didn’t have time to feel sorry for her. The apartment was in a mess, and the potential buyer was coming to see the place in the afternoon. I hurriedly called a cleaning service.
Mia seemed to have heard my voice and slowly opened her eyes, appearing quite conscious. Upon seeing me, she quickly got up from the floor and stumbled up to me, apologizing, “Zane, I truly, truly know I was wrong. Please don’t leave me, okay? Let’s get married, okay? I really cut ties with Lucas yesterday. From now on, you’re my only love.”
So that was why Lucas posted strange messages on Instagram last night. Turned out Mia had cut ties with him.
