Chapter 10
We rushed to the address given in the information. It was already deserted.
Zoey also stubbornly refused to speak.
Bryan heard this. He grabbed the phone and put it on speaker.
“Zoey, if you still want to see your son, you better tell me everything you
know.”
Zoey laughed mockingly.
“You would let me see him? You can’t wait for me to die in here!”
Bryan’s voice turned cold.
“Why do you think I haven’t revealed his true identity?”
After he spoke, there was silence on the phone.
Then Zoey’s sobbing was heard.
After she gave us an address, the police quickly took us there.
It was an abandoned factory.
I waited in the car.
After a long time, the police appeared with my parents and Derron in my sight.
Derron’s gaze was as vicious as if poisoned.
On the way, my parents heard that my innocence was proven. They cried on the spot.
“If we had known you were fine, we wouldn’t have believed him. Thankfully nothing happened. Did we cause you trouble again?”
I cracked a smile on my chapped lips.
“How could you? You are always my strong support.”
We were taken back to the police station to give statements.
Derron only confessed after Zoey persuaded him.
They had planned to use my parents‘ lives to coerce me into taking the blame for Zoey.
As long as I took all the responsibility and confessed that I had forged the evidence, everything would still be in time.

evidence, everything would still be in time.
She could then return to Bryan’s side.
The key point was that they thought Bryan didn’t know their son’s true idèntity.
They thought that she would still have a chance to turn things around.
But they didn’t expect that Bryan had found out everything and kept it to himself.
Zoey was stunned.
During the statements, my parents learned all the details. Both of their eyes turned red.
They held my hand and kept apologizing.
“It’s our fault. We shouldn’t have believed others. You couldn’t have done such things. It’s our problem. If we hadn’t come with them, we wouldn’t have caused you trouble.”
I watched the slightly hunched backs of my elderly parents. I felt an indescribable emotion.
As we were leaving, Bryan slipped a card into my hand.
“Take this as compensation. I brought your parents here. Today’s danger was partly caused by me. It was my fault.”
This time I didn’t refuse his kindness. I took the card.
“I thank you on behalf of my parents. I hope we don’t meet again.”
I boarded the train with my parents and our luggage.
Before the train started, I looked back at the city where my youth was
buried.
This place didn’t belong to me.
The distant village was my true home, where I felt at peace.
When I stepped onto the land, my anxious heart finally settled.
The three of us left the village together. In the end, I was the only one who returned.
Maybe after a few years of rest, I might consider going out to fight again. I hope that by then, Jane would have completely grown.
