Chapter 50
The next morning, I woke up feeling completely refreshed. When I picked up my phone, I saw a message from Ethan that had come in an hour earlier.
[Emma.]
[Are you really not going to join the show?]}

[It’s a dating show! Everyone would be so jealous of us, calling us the perfect couple!]
I almost laughed out loud.
Perfect couple?}
I was nothing more than his punching bag. What was so enviable about that?”
So, I replied to him. [Stop pestering me. Anyone who wants to go can go, but count me out.]
[You’ve changed.] Ethan responded simply.“]
I couldn’t help but smirk.
Of course, I had changed. If I stayed the same, I’d be miserable forever.”
I ignored him and spent the morning reading. Later, I went for a health check–up and signed up for an online course to become a psychological counselor.}
It was my college major and something I’d always been passionate about, but Ethan and his mother always thought it wasn’t a proper
career.
I had given up on it before, but now I felt a surge of excitement getting back into it.
I asked my parents to help me find a place back home for a counseling practice.
Then, I buried myself in studying, barely paying attention to anything else and grabbing quick bites to eat.
When the exams were finally over, I felt a huge sense of relief and treated myself to a nice meal S
“This dating show is amazing.”0
“I love Lily and Ethan!“}
“Me too! Even if it’s scripted, I hope they end up together!““]
Hearing this, I looked up from my plate to the TV in the restaurant.
There was Ethan, holding Lily’s hand as they took the stage, singing a love song together.
It looked like they were in their own little world, completely lost in each other.
They were clearly a perfect match, and I was just the one stuck in the middle.
Just as I was mulling this over, Ethan sent me a message. [Emma, did you see the dating show? How do you feel about it?]
I replied to him. [I watched a bit. You two look great together.]
Ethan responded. [Aren’t you jealous?]}
I just chuckled. [Why would I be? We’ve been broken up for ages.])
The chat fell silent after that.
Ethan didn’t reply, and I wasn’t interested in pursuing it.”
I finished my meal, then wandered through the supermarket before heading home. As I walked through the neighborhood, I noticed a familiar figure downstairs.
It was Ethan, dressed in a black hoodie and a hat.
“Emma,” he called as he saw me and came over quickly.
“You’re quite the celebrity now, dating Lily. Aren’t you worried about getting spotted by the paparazzi?” I teased.“}
Seeing him there, I couldn’t help but feel a bit contemptuous.§
He played the perfect boyfriend on TV with Lily, but now he was here trying to talk to me, his ex.}
What a hypocrite! >
“Emma.&
“Don’t be mad. It’s all just a script. The show isn’t real!” he said, looking anxious.
I cut him off, “Save your breath. I really don’t care.”
