“You…”
Ethan was at a loss for words, his face flushing with embarrassment as if he was reliving some awkward memories.
It was eerily similar to a past confrontation, all thanks to Lily.
There was that one dinner at home when Lily had tripped and fallen while carrying a dish, shooting me a hurt glance.”
Ethan had jumped to the conclusion that I’d deliberately stuck my foot out to trip her.
I tried to explain, but he wouldn’t even listen.”
“If you don’t have anything else to say, please go away.” I said, frowning.”
“Ethan!” Suddenly, a shout pierced the air.
Ethan’s face turned pale, and he grabbed my arm, pulling me away until we reached a secluded park.
I wrenched my arm away, annoyed. “Why are you dragging me around? I didn’t come looking for you. What’s wrong with you?“? “I’m sorry,” Ethan said, his eyes showing a flicker of sadness.}
“Since we’re here, let’s take a walk. This place reminds me of the park near our old school.
“We used to walk hand in hand, sharing our joys and sorrows, comforting each other.
“How long has it been since we did that?“>
He stared at the sunset, reminiscing about the good times we had.
But it was all coming back to him now, and it was way too late for that.”
I used to enjoy those park walks with him, savoring the fresh air and the beauty around us.
But then Lily started joining us. She’d sneak up from behind, hug Ethan, and call his name sweetly. Ethan never pushed her away. Instead, he’d smile indulgently and chat with her, often ignoring me. Even when we walked together, Ethan always prioritized Lily, making me feel like a third wheel.
1 voiced my concerns, but he dismissed them as me being petty.
Back then, I was so caught up in my emotions that I thought the problem was with me. Gradually, I lost interest in our walks together.} Now, as this sad little story came to an end, I realized I was just a background character in their movie.
“Emma.
“We can start over!” Ethan said, turning to me with a determined look.
Just as he finished speaking, his phone started vibrating non–stop.
I guessed it was Lily.
Every time Ethan and I had a moment alone, she’d call him for some petty reason.
Whether it was something as trivial as changing a lightbulb, he’d rush off to help her.
I was used to it by now.”
Sure enough, when Ethan checked his phone, it was indeed a call from Lily.
Once again, he answered right in front of me.”
*Ethan.
“There’s a cockroach at my place, and I’m so scared. Can you come over and keep me company?“}] Lily’s voice came through, tinged with distress.}
I recognized this as her usual ploy.
At first, I’d thought she was genuinely anxious, suffering from some sort of phobia or depression.
But then one day, after a few drinks, she had smugly pointed at me and said, “You can never compete with me!
“I just need to act a little helpless, and Ethan will drop you and come running to take care of me.!!
“Our relationship is something you can’t change or chase after.”
Her words cut deep
But at the time, I refused to admit defeat, trying my best to win Ethan’s affection.#
It turned out that Lily and Ethan were a formidable pair, and I was left crushed.
Even when I told Ethan about Lily’s drunken rant, he didn’t believe me and accused me of having ulterior motives.
Now, once again, Ethan would likely rush to her side, leaving me behind.
