Chapter 21%
I nodded again, grateful for his concem. I could hear the crackling of the fire from the hearth nearby, the flames casting a warm glow against the darkening sky. The fire felt like a comfort, something to hold onto while the world around me felt like it was shifting beneath my feet.
“You’ll be fine, Lyria.” Foggy said again, his voice low and steady.
I turned to face him, my eyes searching his face for something–anything–that would make me feel like things would stay the same. But he just smiled, that soft smile of his, the one that always made me feel safe, even when I knew better?
“I am still here today….not leaving right now.” He patted me on the back, leaving me to my thoughts.
I sat back in my chair, staring at the screen. Damon and Lilith were in that room again. He looked so angry. Lilith, though, looked too happy for someone in his bad mood.
“You’re stuck with me now, Damon, Lilith said, smiling like she’d won. “Soon, our pup will be here. Then what will you do?”
“Have you no shame?” Damon muttered.
“Shame for what? For the wolf carrying a part of you? Lie that you never wanted this. You left Lyria every night to sneak into the Alpha’s headquarters to come see me. You go into thick forest to fetch me wild flowers while Lyria begged for your attention” Lilith
sneered
Damon’s eyes glowed. “Don’t talk to me. Just stay quiet.”
“OK_my mate” Lilith stated at him.
“Stop staring at me like that,” Damon snapped at her
Lilith laughed, her voice light, but there was venom behind it. “What? Am I making you nervous?“!
“You’re making me sick, Damon bit out, his hands curling into fists at his sides. “Just stay on your side of the chamber.”
“Oh, come on, Damon,” she purred, leaning closer to him. “We’re going to be a family soon. You can’t keep pretending I don’t exist.” “Family?” Damon barked out a laugh, not holding anything back “You think I want to have a family with you? You’re delusional,
I watched all of this unfold with barely any interest. They deserved each other–two liars, playing their little games. If this was the life. Damon wanted, he could have it. I wouldn’t stop him.
But then his face changed. His expression went softer for just a moment,
1, and I saw it–he was thinking of me. I could almost hear the whisper leave his lips.
“Lyria,” he muttered bitterly, his voice barely audible. Tm sorry. Please, come back ““}
I rolled my eyes, shaking my head. Too late, Damon I murmured to myself. “You made your choice.”
The scene shifted. Damon had convinced Lilith to leave the chamber, taking her to the high mountains. I leaned forward slightly. curious despite myself. What was he up to now?:
Lilith was happy, her smile too wide.
“This is nice,” Lilith said, looking around. “Why are we here?”
“The view” Damon said flatly. “I thought you’d like it“]
She smiled, acting like he’d just confessed his love. “See? You’re warming up to me. I knew you would. You and I are match made by the moon goddess herself“}
Damon didn’t reply. He just kept walking until they were near the edge. Then, without warning, he pushed her!!
Lilith screamed as she tumbled down the rocky slope. She hit the ground hard, clutching her stomach and crying in pain.
Damon climbed down slowly, standing over her. His eyes showed satisfaction. Like he wanted Lilith to understand the pain he was feeling.
“You thought you could ruin my life and get away with it?” he growled. “You chased Lyria away. You think I ever forgive you for that?” Lilith sobbed, shaking her head. “Damon, please –“H
“Shut up,” he snapped. “As long as we’re stuck together, I’ll make you suffer every day.”
She cried louder, clutching her belly. For a second, I thought he’d leave her there. But then, out of nowhere, he picked her up. His voice changed, soft and caring.
“Hold on,” he said. “I’ll get you to the healer.”
What? My mouth fell open. Was he serious? One minute, he’s throwing her down a mountain, and the next, he’s saving her? Lilith had really infected him with her poison.
When they got to the healer’s den, Damon looked like the perfect mate. “She fell,” he said, his voice full of fake worry. “Please help her. She’s carrying my pup.“X
Lilith held on to him, crying hard into his chest. It was pathetic. They were both pathetic.
I shook my head, turning off the screen. “They deserve each other,” I muttered.
