Chapter 1
In a private hospital room, Kristina lay on the bed like a corpse. A man and a woman pushed the door open and walked in, grinning as they showed
a metal tray into Kristina’s hands.
“Kristina, you’re awake! Come, feel the cornea you just donated to Stanley. It was freshly removed. The woman was none other than Kristina’s. sister, Tessa. She laughed loudly. “Kristina, looks like it’s finally your tum to suffer”
Kristina went berserk, flinging the tray away. Blood tears streamed down from her bandaged eyes. “You’ve been scheming against me from the very beginning, haven’t you?”
The man–Kristina’s husband, Stanley–spoke with disgust. “Didn’t expect you to have a moment of clarity before you died.”
Tessa took Kristina’s hand and placed it on her round, swollen belly. “Kristina, there’s a baby in here. Stanley’s child.
“You were married to him for three years, and he never touched you because he was busy sleeping around with other women every single night. But I was the first to carry his child. I won”
Stanley crudely parted Tessa’s belly, his voice laced with malice. “You little bitch, I’ll admit you’ve got some skills to have gotten pregnant with my child. You’re cunning–and certainly more charming than your dumb sister.
A twisted grin spread across Tessa’s face. She suddenly yanked out Kristina’s IV line, venting her anger on her.
You willingly donated your corneas to Stanley to repay his so–called life–saving grace. But guess what? Stanley was never sick.” Tessa said. “And the one who saved you back then wasn’t even him.”
The revelation sent Kristina into a fit of labored, frantic breathing. A searing pain ripped through her head as she clutched desperately at Tessa’s foot, like a drowning person grasping for life. “You’ve been lying to me all along? You’ll die a horrible death
“Look who’s dying now? Tessa kicked her away. “Why should you have everything I wanted since we were kids?”
Stanley burst into crazed laughter as he emptied a can of gasoline onto the floor. The madness in his eyes made him unrecognizable.
Tessa smirked. “I should thank you, really. You fought against Trenton for Stanley for three whole years. Even a ruthless man like him couldn’t take you down. After you’re dead, we’ll make good use of the inheritance you left behind.”
Kristina sat limp in the pool of gasoline, like a puppet with its strings cut. The lingering effects of the anesthesia left her unable to even drag Stanley and Texa into the flames with her.
The fire ignited by the door, quickly devouring everything in its path. As the flames engulfed her, she managed to let out one last piercing curse. Just you wait! Even in hell, I won’t let you go-
At the grand wedding alliance between Avalis’s top clite families, the McClain family and the Bentley family, Kristina jolted awake from a nightmare, her entire body convulsing and drenched in sweat
The senuation of her skin burning felt terrifyingly real, yet now she seemed to have been reborn.
Everything in sight was identical to her wedding three years ago–flowers, gowns, and Stanley’s framed photo. It all made her sick to her stomach.
Kristina couldn’t control the wild pounding of her heart. Her stomach twisted in knots, threatening to make her vomit. Scenes of deception and betrayal replayed in her mind, each one clearer than ever.
When she finally calmed down, only one thought remained–revenge. She would make Stanley, Tessa, and everyone else who had wronged her
And
as he put on a show of
At that moment, reporters crowded d outside the doors, while Stanley stood beside her, wearing a sickeningly eager smile as he
Kristina only had revenge in her heart. When a reporter asked about the wedding arrangements, she suddenly grabbed the microphone. Her eyes reddened as she said. “I think there’s been a misunderstanding. I am indeed marrying into the McClain family–but I am not marrying Stanley”
In an instant, all eyes locked onto Kristina. Stanley stood frozen in shock. “Kristina? You—”
Kristina sneered, gripping Stanley’s arm tightly, her sharp nails digging cruelly into his flesh. “Did everyone get that? Stanley!
“The Bentley family is a distinguished household in Avalis. My parents would never allow me to marry a useless, pathetic failure like Stanley. Tell
what ruactly do I see in him! His incompetence! Or his impotence?”

Stanley’s face twisted with fury. He bared his teeth and lunged at Kristina, roaring, “Kristina, what’s wrong with you?”
Kristina swiftly dodged, but in the next instant, she clutched her right check and dramatically collapsed to the ground, pretending to have been struck. Gasps of shock echoed through the hall.
She sat on the floor, covering her face, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “Did everyone see that? Stanley has severe… violent tendencies. If I dare to disobey him, he hits me. I never wanted to marry him, but he forced me to do it.”
“Kristina, what the hell are you talking about? You crazy bitch, you- Stanley was livid. He clenched his fists and swung at her, but before he could land a blow, he was swarmed by reporters and his family. The venue descended into chaos.
“Mr. McClain, were you about to hit her just now? Could you clarify what she said about your violent tendencies? Did the McClain family know about this?” The reporters fired questions at him relentlessly.
Kristina allowed a female reporter to help her up. She instinctively licked her lips, a glint of cold amusement flashing in her eyes.
Stanley had always had an explosive temper. In her past life, he had hidden it well–until the night he burned her alive.
Now, with just a little provocation, he was already losing control Kristina thought to herself, ‘So, the Stanley from three years ago is quite easy to deal with,
“Nonsense! Don’t make up stories. My son is perfectly fine. That woman is lying” Stanley’s mother quickly stepped in to defend him.
Stanley, shielded by his mother, managed to regain some composure. He pointed a trembling finger at Kristina. “You manipulative woman! I once saved you. You were the one who insisted on marrying me out of gratitude. What the hell are you trying to pull now?
“With your background, do you really think anyone in the McClain family would want you besides me?”
At the mention of gratitude. Kristina let out a cold laugh before quickly putting on an innocent expression again. “Mr. McClain, don’t flatter yourself.
“Let’s not even bring up something as ridiculous as gratitude. The person I’m actually marrying is your uncle–Trenton
A collective gasp swept through the hall. Trenton McClain had recently been in a car accident and was now in a vegetative state. Rumors had it that he wouldn’t survive past the end of the year.
