Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Trenton was the formidable rival Kristina had fought against for th
years in her past life.
Born into prestige, he graduated from Havenridge University and took over the entire McClain Group empire before the age of thirty. Ruthless, shrewd, and wielding immense power, he amassed billions in just a few short years.
His striking good looks made him the heartthrob of countless socialites. Standing over six feet tall with a physique rivaling that of a top male model, Trenton was a regular in fashion magazines.
Yet, ever since his car accident, he hadn’t been able to find a single woman willing to n
marry him.
Kristina’s words were nothing short of an earthquake.
“I’ve told you countless times, but your family just doesn’t seem to understand.” She looked at Stanley and sighed dramatically. Tm going to be Trenton’s wife. How could you treat me like this? Are you really trying to steal your own uncle’s woman?”
The reporters, like a pack of hungry wolves, scribbled furiously on their notepads And Kristina, ever the instigator, continued fanning the flames, determined to drag the entire McClain family into utter disgrace.
Sensing danger, Stanley’s mother, tris, quickly stepped in, shielding her son as she forced a smile.
“This is just a misunderstanding,” she said. “Please, don’t rush to print anything. My son and Kristina will resolve this matter.
“Trenton has suffered such a tragic accident, and for someone to still stand by him unwaveringly well, that’s truly a blessing for the McClain family-
Kristina watched as the McClain family gritted their teeth in silent rage. She was thoroughly enjoying the moment. Flashing Stanley a meaningful smile, she said, “Stanley, don’t be so impulsive.
“After all, once I marry into the McClain family, we’ll be seeing a lot of each other for a long, long time.”
“And that’s perfect, she thought. Because I’ve got all the time in the world to settle the debts you owe me

Seeing that someone was willing to marry Trenton, his mother, Belinda, was overjoyed. The wedding was held in no time.
This wedding caused a stir in almost half of Havrelia’s business circle. Countless elites attended, but the groom was absent.
Kristina calmly completed all the ceremonies and moved into the McClain Manor that very night.
Trenton, unconscious, lay in the master bedroom. The hospital bed seemed a bit small for him, whose height was over six feet.
Several tubes were inserted into his body, and his pale skin stretched over well–defined muscles, making him look as if he were merely asleep and would wake at any moment
Kristina stepped closer to look at him. Trenton had strikingly defined features, a straight and prominent nose, and an air of nobility that was impossible to ignore. Despite that handsome face, the doctors had declared he didn’t have much time left.
But Kristina knew that in a few months, he would recover completely. Based on her past lif him to live to a hundred without issue.
experience, this man’s body was sturdy enough for
With that thought, Kristina crouched by the bed and whispered to Trenton, “Mr. McClain, I really couldn’t think of a better way, so I had no choice but to use you for now..
“I promise I won’t go against you this time. Just give me a few months to take care of Stanley and Tessa, and then we’ll part ways. I won’t get in the way when you go looking for another woman.”
She had seen Trenton’s methods before. With him around, Stanley would be nothing more than a loser who wouldn’t even get a share of the inheritance.
Too bad she had been blind in her past life, foolishly marrying Stanley out of gratitude and even helping him fight for the family fortune, only to let Tessa reap all the benefits in the end.
This time, Kristina had decided to do things thoroughly and cut off Stanley’s path entirely.
While she was lost in thought, the door behind her was suddenly pushed open. It was Stanley.

“Kristina, what are you doing?” he demanded. “You told me that now that Trenton is down, you’d take advantage of the chaos in the McClain family to help me seize power. You said you’d give me anything. And yet, you married this useless fool!!
Stanley strode up to her, his chest rising and falling sharply. “Do you plan to be a widow for life? Or are you waiting for him to die so you can take all the McClain family’s assets for yourself? In your dreams!”
Kristina felt a wave of nausea rise within her, but she had to admit–she had indeed been that stupid in her past life.
Back then, her mind had been consumed by the idea of repaying a debt. Even though she didn’t love Stanley, she had still agreed to marry him. serving as nothing more than a tool for his power grab. But now, she was different.
Kristina swung her hand and slapped Stanley hard across the face. “Don’t you dare spout nonsense in front of my husband. I am now Trenton’s wife
-show some respect”
Stanley was completely stunned. He couldn’t understand how Kristina had changed so drastically. The Kristina he used to know was simple and naive. A few sweet words were enough to coax her into obedience. She had never spoken to him so harshly before.
Stanley stepped closer, his voice laced with menace as he warned, “Have you forgotten who saved your life back then? Are you really this ungrateful!
Kristina’s gaze
turned ice–cold in an instant, sending a chill down his spine. “Oh? Then let’s take a good look back at how you
‘saved me.”
A sudden wave of panic washed over Stanley. He instinctively stepped back a few paces, his body trembling slightly. “Take a look back at what? You owe me your life. Are you trying to deny it?”
He couldn’t understand how Kristina had changed so much. She used to be completely deceived by him, firmly believing in what he had told her. For a brief moment, Stanley wondered if she had discovered something. But on second thought, that seemed impossible.
The next second, he saw movement behind Kristina. The unconscious Trenton, lying on the bed, had just lifted his hand.
Stanley turned deathly pale, cold sweat breaking out all over him. His mind raced, replaying their conversation, trying to figure out if he had let anything slip. He didn’t want Trenton to hear any of it.
“Anyway, your life belongs to me. You’d better remember that, he muttered before stumbling out of the master bedroom in a panicked retreat.
Kristina was just about to say something when she suddenly felt something brush against the back of her hand. She looked down–and froze.
It was Trenton’s oxygen tube. Stanley had accidentally yanked it off while fleeing,
Kristina’s heart nearly stopped. Without oxygen, Trenton’s heart rate plummeted rapidly. A suffocating fear wrapped around her like a vice. Frantically, she slammed her hand against the emergency button and shouted for the butler and doctor to come at once.
In mere moments, the master bedroom was flooded with bright lights and crowded with people. The doctor pulled Kristina aside and told her grimly. “Given his current condition, even if we manage to resuscitate him, the chances of him waking up are extremely low-
Kristina’s eyes turned red with desperation. She grabbed the doctor’s coat tightly. “Don’t talk nonsense. Who says he won’t wake up! Do everything you can to save him. I swear he will wake up. I believe in him”
