Chapter 11
“But what!” Before John could finish, Kristina raised an eyebrow a and interrupted him. “Dad, I’m an adult. I’m capable of making decisions for my
own life.

“Dad, although our family’s financial situation isn’t great right now, don’t forget that over the years. I’ve helped you earn quite a bit of money to support the household.”
She curled her lips into a smile and deliberately shook the card in her hand. Tve just married into the McClain family, and you’re already eyeing this black card. Isn’t that a bit inappropriate?”
I’ve already told the McClain family that I don’t care about money. But the way you’re acting… She narrowed her eyes slightly and left the sentence hanging.
With Kristina’s words hanging in the air, John had no choice but to force himself to tear his gaze away from the black card. “I didn’t mean anything by it. I just wanted you to come home for a meal.”
For him, it wouldn’t be a big deal to have a falling–out with Kristina. But if the Bentley family were to antagonize the McClain family, it would spell doom for them.
“I’ll skip the meal,” Kristina said with a cold smile. “When I left, my in–laws had prepared clam chowder for me
With that, she slipped the black card back into her bag and turned to leave
After stepping out of the Bentley family’s villa, Kristina felt as if her chest was on fire, an indescribable discomfort gnawing at her.
In her previous life, she had been too naive, always thinking that although John was driven by self–interest, he still loved her. Now, recalling John’s money–grubbing expression and his rapidly shifting attitude toward her, she couldn’t help but sneer.
In an instant, all her expectations of the Bentley family vanished into thin air. She tilted her head back, clenched her fists tightly, and silently vowed to herself that she would live a different life from her previous one.
From now on, Kristina would live only for herself.
When Kristina returned, Trenton was already waiting in front of the black, carved gate. He looked like a big dog that had been abandoned.
“You’re finally back.” Catching sight of the familiar figure, he abruptly lified his head and looked at Kristina with bright eyes
Trenton stepped forward and grasped Kristina’s hand firmly. “Where did you run off to? Why did you leave me behind! I waited for you inside for a long time, but you never came to pick me up
The temperature of his palm was unusually high, almost burning. Realizing something was wrong. Kristina touched his forehead with her other hand. Her tone immediately became tense. “You were fine when I left. Did something happen after I was gone?”
Kristina couldn’t figure out why he had suddenly developed a fever.
Trenton tilted his head and said, “After you left, someone came in and drove the therapist away. He chattered at me about a lot of nonsense and even tried to push me into the pool.”
Kristina thought about who in the McClain family might have hurt Trenton. Besides Stanley, she couldn’t think of anyone else.
She couldn’t believe that even in Trenton’s current condition, Stanley was still relentless. A fierce anger burned in Kristina’s chest. Her lips pressed tightly into a straight line, and her eyes reddened slightly with rage.
Taking a deep breath, she found a photo of Stanley in her phone’s gallery–one she hadn’t yet deleted–and held the phone up to Trenton’s face. “Ts this the person who tried to push you?”
“Yes” Trenton nodded, jabbing his finger forcefully on the screen and emphasizing loudly, “It’s him.”
Hearing this, Kristina furrowed her brows and felt her anger are up. She grabbed Trenton’s wrist tightly and, suppressing her fury, asked, “Where
“He was taken to Westlake Medical Center, Trenton replied.
“Let’s go teach him a lesson right now,” Kristina said.
As soon as Trenton mentioned going out, the McClain family promptly arranged for a driver. The car pulled up to the entrance of Westlake

Medical Center. When they passed by a flower shop, Kristina suddenly asked the driver to stop.
About ten minutes later, she got back into the car with a large bouquet of white carnations. Before she could even settle into her seat, she took out a small bottle of insect repellent and sprayed it on the flowers.
“Are these flowers for me!” Trenton stared at the large bouquet in her arms, extremely excited. His eyes sparkled like those of a puppy full of longing.
“No,” Kristina said.
Upon hearing this. Trenton’s expression fell, and the light in his eyes seemed to go out.
“These flowers aren’t good enough” Kristina couldn’t bear to see him so disappointed. She ruffled his hair and gently coaxed, “You deserve better flowers. I’ll give you others in the future.”
At this moment. Trenton was like a child–his feelings of disappointment came and disappeared quickly.
“Really?” His eyes lit up again, and he quickly emphasized, “Then I want ones bigger than these flowers today”
“No problem. You can have as many flowers as you want.” Kristina smiled and readily agreed.
Westlake Medical Center was a hospital under the McClain family’s ownership. With the bouquet of carnations in her arms, Kristina strode in with Trenton, her demeanor fierce and determined.
