Chapter 88
It was bedtime, and I still didn’t turn my phone back on. Instead, I washed up and went straight to sleep.
The next morning, after getting ready for work, I opened the door to leave–only to freeze. Standing outside was Serena.
She was still wearing the same white dress from the day before. Her hair was slightly disheveled, and exhaustion was written all over her face. She looked like she’d rushed back in a hurry.
“Serena, is there something you need?” I asked.§
“Why didn’t you answer your phone?” she demanded.}
Our voices overlapped, her tone sharp with frustration.}
I steadied myself and gave her a faint, distant smile. “My phone was off. I didn’t notice. Is there something you need from me?”
My voice was polite but cold, distant yet calm.
“Albion, can you stop talking to me like this? When did we become so distant?” she asked, clearly frustrated.
What she didn’t understand was why my attitude had suddenly changed–why I wasn’t chasing after her anymore.}
“Sis, what are you even saying? I’ve always been like this,” I replied evenly.
“Stop calling me that,” she snapped, her voice rising. “You hated calling me that, remember?“}
Her words brought back memories. After we started dating, I’d stopped calling her “sis.” The word felt like a barrier, constantly reminding me of the distance between us.
“But you hated it when I called you by your name too,” I said, my smile holding no warmth. “You told me to stop clinging to you, so I did. What’s there to be upset about now?”
“Oh, right,” I added with a hint of mockery. “You also said you’d introduce me to someone better than you. When’s that happening?“}
“Albion! Are you trying to drive me crazy?” she exclaimed, her face flushed with anger. Gripping my hand tightly, she gritted her teeth. “That was a stupid joke I made when I was drunk! How could you take it seriously? And we haven’t broken up! Don’t even think about being with someone else!“}
“I did take it seriously,” I said, pulling my hand free from her grasp. “From the moment you said those words, we were done. If it wasn’t clear enough then, let me spell it out now: we’re over.”
“From now on, the only relationship we’ll have is friendship.”
“Friendship? What kind of nonsense is that? Did you even think about my feelings when you decided this?” sho
filled with bittemess and defiance.}
shouted, her voice
I took a deep breath and said firmly, “Serena, I regret it. I regret being with you. That’s why I want to break up. Do you understand now?”
“No! You can’t just decide to break up on your own!“}
I bit back my frustration, the weight of my past life pressing heavily on my heart. “Serena, have you thought about Cyril when you say these things? You still can’t let him go, and he still loves you. I’m stepping aside to make things easier for you two. What more do you want from me?“}
“He’s part of my past,” she snapped, her voice rising. “I’ll never get back together with him.” Her emotions flared, and she suddenly looked desperate. “If his existence bothers you, I’ll cut ties with him. I swear, from now on, it’ll only be you by my side.“>
No sooner had her words left her mouth than her phone started ringing. Without hesitation, she declined the call.
A second later, it rang again. She rejected it again.}
But I’d seen the caller ID clearly. The name flashing on the screen was unmistakable: “My Cy–Cy.”
There was no need to guess. It was Cyril.”
When the phone rang for the third time, she raised her hand to decline it again, but I spoke up.
“Just answer it. He might need something urgent,” I said coolly.”
She hesitated, her expression flickering with doubt. But after a moment, she finally answered.
As soon as the call connected, the sound of chaos came through the line.
From what I could make out, it sounded like he’d been in a car accident.”
Panic flashed across Serena’s face. Her voice, though laced with worry, tried to sound reassuring as she spoke into the phone.
