Chapter 27
Elaine frowned, brimming with defiance. “No way! I won’t apologize. I didn’t do anything wrong.
With that, she tried to storm off. No way was she going to admit defeat to any of them.

But just as she turned to leave, a sudden pain shot through her leg, causing her to stumble and fall to her knees. The hard ground met her kneecaps with a thud, and a sharp cry of pain escaped her lips as she collapsed.
Trenton pulled back his foot, which was wrapped in bandages. He had kicked Elaine hard enough to make sure she learned her lesson.
“Apologize.” His voice was low, carrying a dangerous edge. At that moment, he wasn’t the boy with the mind of an eight- year–old anymore. He stood there like he had returned to himself who could change everything with just one word.
Elaine, struggling on the floor, couldn’t meet Trenton’s eyes. The moment she glanced at him, her apology spilled out involuntarily. “S–sorry, I was wrong.”
“Throw her out,” Trenton ordered firmly.
The nearby servants stood speechless, gripped by fear of Trenton’s authority. They quickly grabbed Elaine and dragged her out, showing no mercy.
“No, please.” Elaine fought against them, but every attempt sent fresh pain shooting through her knees. Dressed only in a thin nightgown, with cuts on her body and her hair disheveled, she was tossed outside.
Kristina lowered her eyes, feigning terror, though she could hardly hold back her laughter inside. She had crafted this scene carefully, determined to ruin Elaine’s reputation as a bully so she wouldn’t have to face the same deceit as in her past life.
Belinda hobbled down the stairs with her cane and gave Kristina’s shoulder a gentle pat. “Don’t worry, sweetie. This isn’t over. I’m so sorry you had to deal with all this today. I’ll make sure you get the answers you deserve.”
After a moment, she added, “It’s late–you all should get some rest. Dr. Lynn, please take care of Kristina’s injuries.”
With that, she headed upstairs, while Kristina and Trenton returned to their room with Henry to take care of their injuries. The two looked like a pair of unfortunate lovebirds, nursing their wounds together.
Once Henry left, Trenton suddenly pulled Kristina into a hug, his cheek brushing against hers. “Please don’t hurt yourself like this again.”
“Trenton realized I was faking my injury?‘ Kristina’s eyes narrowed, her heart racing. She gripped Trenton’s arms, her gaze intense. “How did you find out?”
In his deep, thoughtful gaze, Kristina saw her own reflection as Trenton replied, “Elaine’s ear is impaired. Henry mentioned there’s a certain level of pain people can tolerate, and her injuries didn’t look self–inflicted. They had to caused by something external.”
That made sense, and if Trenton hadn’t pointed it out, Kristina might have overlooked that detail. “Do you think anyone else would catch on?”
“No, nobody else seems to be paying attention to Elaine,” Trenton answered smoothly. A surprising gentleness softened his icy demeanor, creating an unexpectedly charming contrast.
Kristina pressed her lips together, her fingers gently running through Trenton’s hair. “Since you know this, why did you still stand up for me?”
“You’re my girl; of course, I’m going to protect you. Nobody can hurt you.” Trenton’s eyes were deep and sincere, each word imbued with unwavering warmth.

Chapter 27
A comforting feeling washed over Kristina. Just as she opened her mouth to respond, Trenton suddenly tugged at his clothes. “I’m so hot.”
“Hot?” Kristina was puzzled, alarm bells ringing in her mind. Quickly, she checked on him and noticed his cheeks were visibly flushed. He seemed to be struggling with his temperature, unbuttoning his pajamas to reveal his chest.
She caught his wrist, feeling his pulse racing wildly under her fingers. Her brow furrowed–something was off. “What did you have for dinner tonight, Trenton?” she asked, her voice edged with concern.
“I only had dinner, but I’m feeling really bad,” Trenton replied. His temperature continued to rise, and he was mindlessly beginning to take off more clothes.
“Hang on, I’ll help you cool down,” Kristina responded, dashing to the bathroom and filling the bathtub with cold water.
Once Trenton was soaking in the tub, she turned to fetch the first aid kit. However, as she rushed back, she unexpectedly slipped on a puddle of water and fell backward.
Trenton, already unsteady, was knocked by her fall, and they both tumbled into the bathtub.
Water burst everywhere, drenching them both as they plunged into the cool, crisp water. Instinctively, Trenton pulled Kristina close, his arm wrapping around her waist.
