Chapter 29
“Where does it hurt?” Kristina asked, her voice filled with worry. ‘Could it be that James is not skilled enough in medicine right now?‘
“My neck.” Trenton frowned, pushed himself up on his arms, and rubbed his neck.
“Anywhere else hurting?” Kristina asked. “Any other issues besides your neck?”
Trenton replied, “Nah, just this pain–feels like I’ve been hit with a stick.”
Kristina tugged at the corner of her mouth awkwardly and massaged the back of Trenton’s neck gently. She realized she might have been a bit too heavy–handed yesterday.
Just as she worked out the tension in his neck, a knock came at the bedroom door. A team of doctors in white coats, carrying medical bags and rolling–in equipment, entered the room. It was time for Trenton’s routine medical exam.
Kristina frowned slightly and positioned herself in front of Trenton’s bed. “From now on, you don’t need to come for check- ups. I’ve found a skilled doctor who can treat him. He’ll recover soon.”
The lead doctor hesitated, then said, “We get your concern, but we’re his assigned medical team. Mrs. Belinda McClain wants these check–ups. If you block us, there could be…”
“I’m telling you it’s not happening. Can’t you get that?” Kristina snapped.
“We-” the doctor started.
Before he could finish, Lisa cut in, “Kristina, what are you doing? You can’t talk to doctors like that.”
She walked in with Tessa while smiling apologetically at the doctors. “I’m really sorry; Kristina is just a bit spoiled at home. Please don’t mind her. Could you start the check–up?”
With that, Lisa shot Kristina an annoyed look. “You really are something. Acting out at home is one thing, but this isn’t our house. You can’t behave like this here.”
Kristina furrowed her brow and glanced briefly at Lisa and Tessa, but she remained silent. Her focus shifted to a doctor approaching Trenton, whose name tag read “Zachary Moore“-a name Kristina didn’t recognize from the doctors‘ team list.
Kristina stepped in front of Zachary, silent but radiating a cold, dangerous intensity that warned him to back off.
“Mrs. Kristina McClain, we can’t postpone his treatment. Mrs. Belinda McClain wants us to do everything possible. We’ve been managing his care from the start. If you stop us, how can we explain this to her?” Zachary said.
The other doctors nodded in agreement, chiming in with similar sentiments.
“Yeah, please let us continue.”
“We’ve been by Mr. McClain’s side the whole time, taking care of him to ensure he gets better. How could anyone outside possibly know more about his condition than we do?”
Kristina watched them with a cold expression, and it struck her as ridiculous. “If there’s any trouble, I’ll handle it. Now, please leave!”
Seeing Kristina’s unwavering, Trenton mirrored her demeanor, adopting a stubborn and cold expression. Zachary let out a resigned sigh. “Since that’s the case, we’ll have to call in Mrs. Belinda McClain to make the decision.”
With that, he stepped out. But Belinda was away, leaving them without their expected backup.

Kristína certainly wouldn’t tolerate them; she instructed the butler to show the medical staff out. At this point, she had no idea which doctor might be the traitor. Until she could figure that out, she wasn’t trusting any of them.
Trenton sat beside the bed, his presence imposing, radiating a chilling aura that seemed to ward off anyone Kristina didn’t want around.
Lisa and Tessa exchanged shocked looks. In just a few days, Kristina had completely changed–now she seemed like a confident, take–charge woman who could easily hold her own in high society.
Tessa could barely hide her jealousy. She sulked, completely unimpressed by Kristina’s sudden change. ‘What’s she showing off about? Sure, Trenton’s technically in charge, but he’s got the mental maturity of a kid. There’s no way he’ll be able to handle things for long.
Kristina’s eyes locked onto Lisa and Tessa. The icy, menacing look she gave them sent a chill down their spines.
