As Kristina held the invitation in her hand, she couldn’t help but notice the contrast–everyone else’s invitations were machine–printed, while hers was neatly handwritten. It was clear that saving his life had really made an impact on him.
Iris was the first to arrive, closely followed by Kristina and Trenton. Their entrance drew significant attention and inevitably sparked a flurry of gossip among the guests.
“Iris is really embarrassing. Her daughter–in–law became her sister–in–law. I wonder if she feels awkward. If I were her, I wouldn’t even have the face to show up.”
“No kidding, Kristina is way better than Iris. She’s not only beautiful but has a firm grasp on things. She took control of half of the McClain family’s empire as soon as she got through the door.”
“I’m so envious. If I had that kind of determination when I was young, I wouldn’t have had to put up with my mother–in- law’s nonsense.
Right then, Kristina glanced over at the group chatting away and flashed them a quick smile.
Those who caught her gaze froze. She was absolutely breathtaking–more stunning than any A–list celebrity out there.
Soon, they felt an intense stare burning into them. When they turned to see where it was coming from, they froze- Trenton’s sharp, icy eyes were locked on them.
He looked undeniably dangerous–nothing like the fool everyone presumed him to be at all. He seemed to be back to being the ruthless powerhouse he used to be.
The chatter dropped to a hush. Guests quickly looked away, avoiding eye contact. No one dared to even peek in Kristina’s direction.
Just then, an elegant woman glided toward them, her fitted purple evening dress flowing like silk.
Kristina recognized her instantly–it was Yolanda Jackson, Trenton’s future assistant and the only woman he had ever been rumored to have a relationship with.
Yolanda’s intentions were transparent as she approached Trenton with a charming, sweet smile. “Trenton, do you remember me?”
Trenton paused, his cold eyes narrowing at her.
Kristina’s brow furrowed slightly. Trenton remembers Yolanda? Even though he’s been a bit forgetful lately, he’s always kept his distance from everyone. Yet now, he still seems to recognize her?
Yolanda’s smile widened as she went on, “We were overseas together. I was a year ahead o
Before Yolanda could finish, Trenton’s irritation surfaced. “Get lost!”
- u. One night-”
Alright, he’s still the same hotheaded guy, Kristina thought. Noticing Yolanda’s shocked look, she added, “Sorry, but my husband and I need to head over there.”
But before they could move, Yolanda interjected, “Ms. Bentley, may I speak with Trenton alone?”
With a gracious yet deflective smile, Kristina responded, “I’ll need to ask him about it.”
The two women locked eyes, and Kristina immediately sensed the tension radiating from Yolanda. It wasn’t just dislike–it was something deeper, something that had been brewing for a long time..
Trenton breezed right past Yolanda, grabbed a glass of juice from a nearby table, and handed it to Kristina. “You haven’t had

a drink in half an hour. Here’s your favorite grape juice–go ahead and take a sip Ill help your threat?
To everyone else, Trenton came off as cold and detached. But at that moment, there was no denying the warmth in his eyes as he gazed at Kristina.
Yolanda noticed, her hand clenching tightly at her side. Deep down, she’d never bought the idea that Trenton had lost his edge. If anything, it only made her more determined to come back to the country and land a spot at his company his right–hand woman.
Tonight’s party was supposed to be her chance—a way to reconnect with Trenton. But he hadn’t even lonked her way. As the watched the two walk off hand in hand, a sharp, icy glint flickered in her eyes.
When Trenton excused himself to the restroom, Yolanda seized her chance and approached Kristina. Ms. Bentley, can we talk?” she stated, her voice as icy as her demeanor.
Kristína arched an eyebrow. “Hmm? I don’t think we know each other, so there’s nothing to talk about
Yolanda pressed on, undeterred. “Trenton and I graduated from the same university, and we used to be close. I’ve heard about you two, and I did a bit of checking. It seems like you graduated from a regular university here, not even a prestigions
one.”
“So what?” Kristina smirked, her amusement apparent. It wasn’t like she was going for a job interview there what did it matter which school she graduated from?
Yolanda chuckled, feigning nonchalance. “I hope you don’t mind what I’m about to say-
“Sorry, I do mind,” Kristina interjected with unyielding assertiveness.
Yolanda froze but chose to continue. “Trenton isn’t just any ordinary man; he needs an extraordinary woman by his side to support him.
“You just took advantage of his vulnerability when he was sick. Without him, you would never have had the chance to attend a high–class event like this in your entire life.”
Just then, an assertive voice cut through the air, clear and commanding. “That’s where you’re mistaken. Ms. Kristina Bentley is my personally invited guest, and it has nothing to do with who she’s married to.”
A man in a sleek black–and–gold suit walked up to them. His sharp, confident eyes and calm, polished demeanor turned heads as he moved through the crowd. It was Yanis.
