Chapter 35
“I think it might be Yolanda from earlier, Trenton said, turning to Kristina.
“Huh? Why do you think it’s her?” Kristina asked, genuinely curious.
Trenton’s expression turned serious as he thought for a moment and said, ‘I remember, they were a couple in college
Kristina blinked in disbelief. Wait, isn’t Trenton supposed to have the mind of an eight–year–old? He can’t even remember how old he was when he learned Farronian, but he’s recalling college romance stories? His brain’s seriously unpredictable
Just then, Iris approached them, carrying a tray of red wine. With an unusually friendly smile, she sat next to Kristina and eagerly wrapped her arm around hers.
“Kristina, even though there was a bit of misunderstanding earlier due to your somewhat naive actions, we’re actually on pretty good terms now, right?” she asked.
In the world of the wealthy, intense private conflicts were often brushed aside in public. They pretended to be one big. happy family, because after all, they couldn’t let outsiders laugh at their disputes.
In her past life, Kristina had been Iris’s daughter–in–law, but in this life, she was Iris’s sister–in–law. It amused Kristina, especially considering what outsiders might think. Given this situation, any arguments between them would only serve as fuel for jokes.
Kristina warmly returned Iris’s hand squeeze. “Yeah, our relationship is really great!”
“Iris, we should go say hello to the other elders now,” Kristina said and gently patted Trenton’s hand, attempting to calm him down before she and Iris joined the circle of society ladies.
They looked as close as real sisters as they greeted the matriarchs of several prominent families.
Kristina playfully teased, “You better not talk bad about Iris anymore. My life is going so well now, all thanks to her care. She really is a beautiful and kind–hearted person.”
Her tone was light and teasing, but the warning was clear. Instead of taking offense, though, the room broke into soft laughter.
Iris laughed and replied, “Not at all. Kristina is so smart and clever for her age. She’s been very helpful to me.”
“How could that be?” Kristina winked at Iris, her smile growing wider. “I’m in charge of the whole family now, and Iris is helping me. Don’t go causing trouble between us.”
Iris’s face almost contorted at the word “help.” She’d been hoping to make Kristina back down in front of everyone. She
- ly. thought Kristina wouldn’t risk damaging their relationship or humiliating the McClain
But Kristina had the audacity to outshine Iris in front of everyone. The long–time daughter–in–law of the McClain family was reduced to a helper in this game. Iris gritted her teeth, forced words spilling from her lips, “Of course, I hope the McClain family prospers.”
After the interaction, everyone present acknowledged Kristina’s capabilities–she was skillful and definitely not to be underestimated.
After chatting for a while, the group slowly dispersed. Kristina withdrew her hand from Iris’s arm and said, “There’s no point in trying to challenge me. You won’t win, so just rest for now.
“And another thing, your son can’t seem to behave even in the hospital. Just a few days ago, he was trying to hire someone to kidnap me, and it really frightened me.
“However, he’s not as clever as you. He not only attempted the kidnapping but also took photos and videos, leaving the

evidence right behind for me to find.”
Kristina smirked as she pulled a blue SD card from her bag and slowly presented it to Iris. “This is the evidence.”
Iris’s face immediately paled, panic evident in her eyes as she instinctively reached out to grab the card.
