Chapter 6
“Ruby, I need to go to the hospital to check on Olivia. Can’t you just take a cab?”
Before Jaxon could refuse, Ruby was already crying out.
“Jaxon, I can’t take it anymore.
“Please, just help me one last time. I’m begging you!
“Olivia is pregnant too, she would understand, right?”
After a long pause, Jaxon finally sighed.
“Send me the address.”
This time, Jaxon still chose Ruby.
I wasn’t surprised. After all, this wasn’t the first time he had chosen Ruby over me.
On my birthday, he promised to celebrate with me, but because Ruby was afraid of the dark and needed someone with her, he left me hanging and made me wait in the freezing cold for three hours. I ended up catching a fever.
For our tenth anniversary, Ruby wanted to see the Northern Lights, so he dropped everything and took her to the Arctic, leaving me behind.

At first, I cried and threw a fit, but Jaxon kept brushing it off by saying Ruby was like a sister to him.
Now, I had given up on Jaxon. Who he chose and who he wanted to be close to, none of that mattered to me anymore.
After hanging up the phone, Jaxon reminded Henry one more time to take care of me, then turned to leave.
Henry nodded, but as soon as Jaxon was out the door, he immediately called the crematory, planning to have my body cremated.
At the hospital, Ruby was wheeled into the delivery room while Jaxon paced back and forth at the door, anxiously waiting. He looked every bit the devoted husband, staying by his wife’s side during labor.
A passing nurse couldn’t help but whisper to her colleague, “Look at him. His wife is in there giving birth, and he’s right here supporting her. How sweet!
“I envy their child. Born into such a happy family.”
To everyone around them, Ruby and Jaxon were the perfect couple, childhood sweethearts who were meant to be.
And I, well… I was the villainous woman who had torn them apart.
Ruby gave birth to a healthy 7.6–pound baby girl. As soon as Ruby was out of the delivery room, Jaxon immediately rushed over, gently wiping the sweat from Ruby’s forehead and holding the baby up to her.
“Ruby, you did great.”
Ruby, pale and exhausted, lovingly embraced her daughter, her face full of tenderness.
They were a picture–perfect family of three, basking in their happiness.
As for me, I felt a deep, hidden sorrow.
If only I hadn’t lost so much blood, if only my baby had been born, maybe she would have been just as beautiful.
But there were no if–only. My baby was gone, and so was I.
I couldn’t help but wonder, what would Jaxon’s face have looked like if he had known he was the one who had caused my death and the death of our child?
Lost in my thoughts, Ruby was wheeled into a hospital room.
Inside, Jaxon rocked the baby gently in his arms, his eyes soft with uncontrollable tenderness.
Ruby seized the moment, her voice trembling with emotion.
“Jaxon, you love Kathy so much… Why don’t you stay here and keep us company, the two of us
“Before, when you left so suddenly, my parents went into a rage and hit me. They called me indecent and said Kathy was an illegitimate child…
“I fought back so hard I almost lost the baby.
“Jaxon, please, I’m begging you. Help me, just a little longer.”
