The assistant next to the man nodded and leaned forward to say, “Yes, sir, this young lady bought the mountain you were interested in first.”
The man took a puff from his cigarette and slowly blew out the smoke, a playful smirk on his lips. “I never thought someone else would discover the secret of that mountain, which is a natural gold mine. Do you think she was just lucky or clever?”
The man’s gaze fell on the poker table in front of Kristina. She had already won a hefty stack of chips from her opponent, even catching the attention of some of the casino experts.
Without waiting for the assistant’s reply, the man answered his question, “Hmm, she’s quite lucky.”
Kristina was enjoying herself and signaled to the waiter, who promptly brought her some wine.
Raising an eyebrow at the man across from her, Kristina asked, “Want to play another round?”
I’m done playing. My luck’s bad today; I’ll try somewhere else.” The man left, and a newcomer quickly took his spot.
Kristina was about to ask how much her opponent wanted to bet when a woman with a sarcastic tone interrupted, “If it isn’t the jinx.
“Aren’t you scared to sit next to someone born to be bad luck for her mom? You might lose everything!” Following the voice, Kristina saw a woman in a flashy and sultry outfit, walking over with her arms crossed.
She wasn’t very tall and looked fairly pretty, but she had an air of trying too hard. Her haughty attitude made her seem a bit pushy.
The moment Yasmine saw this woman, her cheerful expression turned sour. She tugged at Kristina’s sleeve. “Kristina, I don’t want to play anymore. Let’s go.”
However, the woman wasn’t going to let Yasmine leave. She obstructed her path. “You shouldn’t be here, and you really shouldn’t cause trouble.
“But when you’re at home, you’ll bring misfortune to your family. Your mom passed away because of you, the business suffered, and now your grandma is seriously ill. If I were you, I’d find it hard to live with that shame.”
Kristina frowned, realizing for the first time what Yasmine had gone through while she was away. This sarcastic woman was Yasmine’s sister, Marilyn.
Marilyn had always been arrogant and overbearing. She frequently bullied Yasmine in the past and was often sarcastic towards Kristina as well.
“Marilyn, can you please stop saying that? It’s not my fault that things turned out this way for the family.” Yasmine clenched her fists tightly, her eyes shimmering with the threat of tears.
It’s impossible to say Yasmine didn’t care. The fact that her mother died giving birth to her was a wound Yasmine could never heal from, a dark cloud that would always hang over her life.
Kristina stepped before Yasmine, coldly scolding Marilyn, “Don’t mess with us. You should move out of the way now.”
“Shut up! Are you Kristina? I remember you said you wouldn’t spend time with Yasmine, but here you are with her again,” Marilyn replied.
Marilyn’s face was full of disdain as she stood there in a bright red dress, looking every bit like a socialite. She was a regular at this casino. “Neither of you are anything special.”
“Shut up! Don’t talk about my friends like that!” Yasmine couldn’t stand it any longer. With a bit of liquid courage, she raised her hand and was ready to slap Marilyn.
But Yasmine was too slow; Marilyn caught her wrist first and ruthlessly pushed her to the ground.
“Yasmine, are you alright?” Kristina quickly helped Yasmine up. Kristina’s head was a bit dizzy from the drinks, but it didn’t stop her from making a decision.
Kristina stood up, picked up the glass from the table, and tossed the drink right onto Marilyn’s face. “I’ll teach you a lesson for talking like that.”
The cold, wet liquid soaked Marilyn’s hair and flowed down her face. She never expected Kristina would dare to do this, and her face contorted with anger as she yelled, “How dare you throw this on me?”
