Chapter 66
Kristina was like a gentle mother soothing a willful child. “We can’t let anyone else know about you becoming silly, but don’t worry, I’ll keep you
safe.
With a gentle smile, Kristina slowly crouched down, rested her elbow on Trenton’s leg, and looked up at him softly. “Of course, little fool‘ is just a cute nickname between us. You’re amazing, and we’ll get through this tough time soon. Trust me, okay?”
Trenton’s eyes darkened. He thought, ‘Why is Kristina using a tone like she is talking to a child?‘ Trenton quickly gathered and processed all the available information and finally understood what was going on.
His nephew’s girlfriend had become his wife, and during the time he was unconscious, it seemed his intelligence had decreased, turning him into someone who needed care like a little fool.
Kristina stood up and gently patted Trenton’s head, making him feel like a puppy. “Don’t be scared. James will arrive soon, and we’ll find out what’s wrong. In the meantime, why don’t you have a little late–night snack? So you won’t be hungry.”
As if under a spell, Trenton listened to Kristina’s suggestion and started having a late–night snack. Just then, James arrived with his medical bag.
As soon as James entered, before he could ask anything, Trenton suddenly fainted. The soup bowl he was holding fell to the floor.
Kristina quickly laid Trenton down on the couch. “Let me check. James immediately took Trenton’s pulse, frowning as soon as his fingers touched Trenton’s wrist.
“James, could my husband be getting even more confused? He just fell and passed out, and when he woke up, he remembered nothing. Could there be any side effects?” Kristina asked.
Kristina was a bit worried. Earlier, Trenton’s cold and fierce look was quite similar to him in his normal state. She wasn’t exactly fond of that side of Trenton.
James clicked his tongue, imitating his mentor by stroking a nonexistent beard. “It’s not easy to say. The poison Trenton consumed was powerful with a long duration. The fact that he’s awake at all is already a miracle.
“The medicine I gave you seems to be effective. Based on what you described, Trenton might have had a brief moment of clarity or perhaps became more confused.
“As the treatment continues, this could happen more frequently until he fully recovers, James explained in detail. Medicine always had its side effects and was different for everyone. James couldn’t be sure.
Kristina felt a twinge of sadness as she looked at Trenton, who lay on the bed with his eyes closed.
Kristina thought, “Trenton was already pretty silly, and now he might become even sillier. Would he end up only knowing how to ask for hugs and cuddles?‘
After about ten minutes, Trenton woke up. He frowned, touching the large bump on his forehead, and gasped. “Kristina, it hurts here. Could you blow on it for me?”
“Okay, I will blow on it for you. Be good, I’ve already asked the doctor to apply medicine. Once you wake up from your nap, it won’t hurt anymore,” Kristina comforted Trenton and gave him a reassuring kiss.
Trenton felt upset that night and refused to sleep after fussing for ages.
Kristina finally managed to coax him to sleep, only for someone to come banging on the door a few minutes later. “Kristina, you need to handle this! You owe me an explanation!”
Kristina thought, ‘Isn’t that the voice of Iris who got cheated on? What’s she yelling about in the middle of the night?’
Trenton, nestled in Kristina’s arms, opened his sleepy eyes. Kristina gently covered his ears to coax him back to sleep before getting up and stepping out.
At the top of the stairs, Tris was shouting insults towards Kristina’s room.
