Chapter 68
Kristina spoke rapidly. “If it wasn’t for Stanley and Iris causing trouble, one kidnapped me, and the other falsely accused me. You wouldn’t be questioning me with such a healthy glow now. You’d still be working while sick.
“Mom didn’t just terminate your position; she also distanced herself from you. So you don’t have much connection to the McClain family anymore. You need to establish your household soon.” Every word Kristina spoke felt like a knife to Charlie’s heart.
Charlie held his heart, his hand shaking as he pointed at Kristina. “You bitch.” Charlie’s face turned even paler, and then he lost his balance and fell
over.
“Oh no, quick, someone gets Charlie to the hospital!” Kristina quickly called the night staff. Even though it was late, when they saw the boss was up, they got ready right away.
A few people frantically carried Charlie away. Iris tried to leave with them, but Kristina stopped her by holding her shoulder.
Kristina smirked with a slightly mischievous look, “Iris, Charlie isn’t in good health now. What if, when he gets better, he decides to come back and settle scores with you?
“You and Stanley made him lose his job in the middle of his career, turning him into the family’s shame. Do you think he wouldn’t be angry? Plus, Charlie doesn’t have you in his heart anymore; you should start making plans for yourself.”
Having said all that, Kristina shook her head in resignation and sat on the couch, picking up a glass of water. She had spoken so much that her throat felt dry.
Iris furrowed her brow as if something crossed her mind, and her expression suddenly turned sinister. “Kristina, you bitch!”
“Don’t even think about causing trouble between us. I know you’re trying to push me to kill Charlie, and I’m telling you, that’s not going to happen!” With that, Iris turned and walked away.
Kristina had just taken a sip of water and spat it out immediately. She thought, ‘Murder? Isn’t Iris the one sowing discord, or did Iris accidentally spill her true thoughts? Does she want to go to jail?‘
Once everyone was gone and the night grew late, Kristina also went to rest. Trenton was awakened, holding Kristina grumpily and glaring at her with fierce eyes like an angry puppy.
Kristina gently stroked his head, kissed his forehead, and comforted him like soothing a child, “I just dealt with some trouble, but it’s all sorted now. I can sleep with you.”
“You’re always leaving. I don’t want you to leave me,” Trenton said with a pout, acting cute. He used to have the image of an aloof heartthrob, but
ow he looked so soft and adorable that Kristina felt her heart melting.
now
“Okay, I won’t leave you.” Kristina held him in her arms and gently patted his back. She thought about how she’d have to leave once Trenton recovered and felt a bit reluctant. She liked being relied on like this.
The night went on, and sleepiness took over. By the next morning, the bright sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting little patches of light on the soft, white bed.
Trenton slowly opened his eyes, and there was no trace of sleepiness in them; they were clear and sharp. But the environment around him seemed a bit dim, and his head felt like it was resting on something soft, warm, and fragrant.
Tilting his head back, the sight in front of him gave Trenton quite a shock. He found himself curled up in Kristina’s embrace.
With the scent and softness around him and a flawless face just inches away, Trenton wasn’t captivated and promptly pushed Kristina’s head away.
“So sleepy,” Kristina murmured, snuggling up and rubbing her head against Trenton’s chest before falling back to sleep.
Trenton’s sharp eyebrows were furrowed tightly in thought, and he chose not to move unnecessarily.
His memory cut off again; he recalled tripping and hitting his head yesterday, which left him in constant pain. Kristina had found a doctor to check on him, and not long after the doctor arrived, he fainted again.
Trenton’s expression darkened slightly as he speculated if Kristina and that doctor were up to something. This situation seemed too suspicious. He couldn’t risk alerting them; he needed to understand the situation first.
