I had assumed that after our last conversation, Felix would promptly sign the divorce
agreement.
However, to my great disappointment, he didn’t. Instead, he became a daily fixture downstairs at the law firm, waiting for me with a bouquet.
I was preparing for the bar exam once again, and Isaac had considerately reserved a
meeting room at the firm for me.
During my review sessions, Oscar was by my side every single day,
“Oscar, I’m quite capable of studying on my own. If I run into any questions, I’ll be sure to
reach out to you.”
After all, I was well aware of how occupied lawyers could be. Even though Oscar was still in
his internship, I knew he had a plethora of tasks and responsibilities.
He propped his chin up with one hand and stared at me with a warm smile. “My role right
now is to keep an eye on you while you review
I was momentarily speechless. “Well, but you don’t have to fix your eyes on my face, do you?”
Oscar was quite honest. “I simply can’t help where my eyes wander.”
It dawned on me how vibrant and full of life young people were and how openly they expressed their emotions.
“Could you please go and grab me a cup of coffee?”
With Oscar’s intense gaze fixed on me constantly, it was nearly impossible for me to focus on my work, and an indescribable feeling washed over me.
He sprang to his feet without hesitation. “Sure. You’d better have hot coffee today, lest you
have cramps.”
With that, he swiftly exited the meeting room.
I looked at the closed door, my heart filled with a jumble of emotions.
Oscar was well aware that I had just started my period that day.
I wasn’t some naive young girl. I could easily discern the strong and obvious feelings he had
for me.
But as a woman in my thirties on the verge of getting a divorce, I was truly puzzled about
what he saw in me.
I waited for what seemed like an eternity, but Oscar still hadn’t returned.
I found it a bit strange and thus decided to head to the coffee shop he frequented.
Upon stepping out of the law firm, I noticed that Oscar and Felix had visible bruises on their faces and that coffee was splattered all over the ground.
Meanwhile, their conflict was about to escalate further, and they were on the brink of andr

fight.
“Oscar!”
Startled, I immediately dashed over.

Oscar, who had been aggressive just now, immediately put on a pitiful expression. He grabbed my arm and showed me his swollen and red hand.
It was clearly a scald.
“Hailey, it hurts so much. Blow on it.”
Subconsciously, I gently blew on his hand.
A smug and taunting smile spread across Oscar’s face as he glanced at Felix. Felix, enraged by this display, clenched his fist and lifted it, ready to punch Oscar.
In a flash, I positioned myself between them, shielding Oscar behind my back. I spread my hands wide and glared at Felix warily.
“Felix, have you had enough? If you dare to hit him again, believe it or not, I’ll call the police and have you arrested right away.”
Felix’s fist froze in mid–air, and he stared at me in disbelief.
“Hailey, a–are you protecting him?!”
Felix’s voice trembled with shock.
I met his gaze calmly. “Of course!”
Felix shouted hysterically, “I’m your husband!”
Oscar added, “No! You’re her ex–husband.”
Felix stubbornly refused to accept it. “We’re not divorced yet!”
Oscar retorted, “You will be soon.”
As Felix was about to fly into a rage, I instantly chimed in, “Felix, stop this nonsense. If you don’t want to sign the divorce agreement, I can bring it to court. You don’t want the pornographic evidence to be passed around there, do you? Your parents are old. You don’t want them to go to court and witness people spurn you, do you? Don’t forget that you were once taken to the police station during a crackdown on obscene activities.”
it!”
My blunt threat irritated Felix a lot.
“Fine! Hailey, since you are determined to get a divorce, I’ll grant you your wish. Don’t regret
Felix stormed off.
Oscar immediately beamed with joy. “Hailey, I’ll buy you another cup of coffee right away. Wait for me.”
I placed a hand on his arm to stop him. “No need. Let’s head to the pharmacy first and pick up some burn ointment.”
On our way to the pharmacy, Oscar walked with a swagger, his head held high and his chest puffed out, looking every bit like a triumphant peacock strutting around after a victory.
