Chapter 7
In the dead of night, Alpha Frank stood by the window of his bedroom, a delicate music box in his hand.
We had stumbled upon this music box during their very first trip together, in an antique store in a small, charming town. When the winding key was turned gently, it would play our favorite melody. He stared at it quietly for a long, long time, and memories of the past came flooding back like a tidal
wave.
Finally, his eyes closed tightly, and he hurled the music box with all his might towards the floor.
The crisp sound of shattering was swallowed up instantly by the silent, inky

night.
A few days later, I returned to Alpha Frank’s mansion after finishing my hospital examinations. The moment I stepped
through the front door, I saw Alpha Frank leaning against the wall in the living room, as if he had been waiting for me. I
t was a scene that strikingly resembled the times when he would wait for me downstairs at my dormitory during old days.
But the atmosphere now was so oppressive that it was hard to breathe.
I quietly hid the medicine bottle in my pocket and walked towards him. “Were you looking for me?” I asked softly.
Alpha Frank raised his eyes to look at me. Suddenly, I could tell from his expression

that he noticed I seemed even thinner, my face alarmingly pale. I saw his Adam’s apple bob slightly.
After a moment of silence, Alpha Frank’s face turned cold, and he spoke in an icy tone. “Starting from tomorrow, you don’t need to come here as a maid anymore. I don’t want to see you again.”
A dull pain welled up in my heart, but I fought back the tears, nodded silently, and said in a hoarse voice, “Okay, I understand.”
After Alpha Frank left, I stood there alone, my legs so weak that I could barely stand. My hands began to tremble uncontrollably, a sign that my ALS had worsened.
I leaned against the wall and slowly sank to the floor.

From that day on, my life plunged into utter darkness. My body grew weaker by the day, and every movement became an arduous struggle. Even the simplest actions, like raising my hand or taking a step, became excruciatingly difficult.
Three days after Alpha Frank dismissed me, despite my extreme weakness, I used all my savings to decorate Elena’s grave with great
care.
I bought the flowers that Elena had loved the most during her lifetime and filled the entire gravesite with them.
I also hired someone to carve exquisite tombstone decorations. I stood in front of the grave for a long time. My tears fell continuously, soaking the ground at my feet.
I stroked the tombstone. “Elena, I’m so sorry.

hope you can forgive me.”
In the next few days,my body had become so frail that even swallowing was a struggle.
I sat in the empty house, in front of a large cardboard box filled with mementos of me and Alpha Frank: the movie ticket stubs from our first date, photos of the two of us, a necklace he had given me, and the letters we had written to each other.
With trembling hands, I carefully picked up each item one by one, then dragged my heavy steps, moving slowly towards the beach.
I gently dropped the items in my hands into the sea, one by one.
Today was Alpha Frank’s wedding day. I felt that my life was coming to an end. My

limbs had completely lost their strength, and I could only move with great difficulty. I staggered towards the cliff by the sea.
The sunlight sparkled on the sea surface. I was shivering with cold, and blood trickled continuously from the corner of my mouth, dripping onto the sandy beach.
Passers–by cast startled glances at me, but I seemed oblivious to everything, seeing and hearing nothing as I mechanically made my way towards the cliff.
Finally, I reached the edge of the cliff. Below me was the rough sea, the waves crashing against the rocks with a deafening roar.
Today, he was starting a new life in marital bliss, while I was about to sink into the depths of the ocean. This was the best ending I could think of.

I closed my eyes with a smile and took a decisive leap.
Farewell forever, Alpha Frank.
