Chapter 6
This was the first time I had ever begged
Bran.
“Honey, stop crying. I’ll send someone right away” he soothed me hastily.
While still on the phone with Bran, several black sedans screeched to a halt by the roadside
A group of robust men emerged from the cars with lightning speed.
The man in the lead saw me, he paused for a split second and then asked tentatively, “Are you Isabelle?”
I nodded.

Hearing that his men had arrived, Bran said in a rush, “Don’t panic. Take them in first. I’m boarding a helicopter right now and will be there in half an hour”
“If you have important matters, don’t rush back. I have your men to help me. I’ll be okay.”
Bran’s voice was gentle yet resolute. “Don’t be silly. You’re the most important to me. Just wait for me. I’m on my way.”
As I talked to Bran on the phone, those men stood quietly at a distance, waiting patiently.
After I hung up, the leader stepped forward briskly and said politely, “It’s okay, Isabelle. Please lead us in and let’s see what these guys are up to.”
I led them into the dilapidated rental house.

Mom, Laura, was completely taken aback.
The three bullies, on the other hand, turned as pale as ghosts.
The leader immediately demanded to know what they were doing there. At first, these guys put on an act, flat–out denying everything.
But the leader’s patience snapped. His eyes blazed with fury, and he punched the ringleader right in the face, roaring, “Do you think I’m a pushover? How dare you act so arrogantly here!”
Not wanting to make a scene in front of me and Laura, they dragged the three bullies into a side room to teach them a lesson.
Right away, the room was filled with

the sound of fierce punches and kicks, interspersed with heart–wrenching
screams.
Moments later, the leader came out, gave me a reassuring smile, and then turned to Laura. “Auntie, what did they tell you before?”
Laura said nervously, her voice trembling, “He said my son Alex had offended them, and we had to pay a large sum of money as compensation. They even threatened that if we didn’t pay, they would do something terrible to Alex. I was so scared”
“They’re nothing but a bunch of scoundrels who prey on the meek.”
“Don’t worry, auntie. Now that we’re here, they won’t get away with it.”
Laura burst into tears instantly. “I just want

them to stop bullying my son…”
While the leader was busy comforting Laura, a searing rage surged through me.
I stormed into the room where they were being held, I saw the three cowards cowering on the floor.
I charged towards the leader of the bullies, and with all my might, I launched a series of kicks at him, screaming, “How dare you bully my brother! How dare you!
I was completely out of control, like a raging lion.
Finally, Laura rushed in and wrapped her arms around me, holding me back.
Only then did I realize that my face was soaked with tears and my vision was blurred

Bran arrived much faster than I had anticipated.
I nestled into his embrace.
“Shh, stop crying. I’ll make those scoundrels pay.”
Holding me even tighter, he added, “Baby, I know you’ve been through hell. Just tell me how you want to get even, and I’ll do it for you.”
“Bran, please, I’m begging you. Save my brother, Alex.”
Alex, a brilliant werewolf scientist, was the head of the core technology research and development team in a powerful werewolf pack’s company.

He held the key to a revolutionary
technology that could change the balance of power among the packs.
However, the greedy pack elders, lured by the promise of wealth and power from a rival pack, schemed to leak the technology prematurely.
When Alex, bound by his moral code, refused to be a part of their treacherous plan, they framed him for treason, accusing him of betraying the pack’s secrets.
And so, he was unjustly imprisoned.
I clutched Bran’s sleeve, my knuckles white with fear.
“Please, Bran,”
In an instant, his strong arms wrapped

around me protectively.
“Of course, I’ll help. Who else would be there for you if not me?”
Laura finally learned about our relationship.
One look at the imposing men he brought and the luxurious Bentley parked downstairs was enough to tell her that Bran was no ordinary werewolf.
That afternoon, Laura invited Bran to a nice restaurant. This was a place we used to frequent when our family was prosperous.
It wasn’t out of bravado; she just wanted to show her gratitude and give me some pride.
When it was time to pay the bill, the receptionist informed us that it had already been taken care of. “Who paid?” Laura asked.

Learning that it was a man, we returned to the private room only to find out that Bran had sent his driver to settle the bill.
Laura was a bit embarrassed, but Bran smiled warmly and said, “Auntie, don’t be. It’s the least I can do.”
Laura took an instant liking to Bran.
He was not only handsome and powerful but also modest.
Most importantly, his eyes never left me.
Later, when I was home, preparing the bed, Bran suddenly sneaked up from behind.
He pressed me gently onto the bed and began to kiss my neck.

In that moment, a vivid image of him with another woman flashed through my mind.
It took every ounce of my self–control not to push him away.
After a while, noticing my lack of response, he opened his eyes and asked, “What’s wrong?”
I managed a soft reply, “I’m just not in the mood.”
