Soon it was time to get off work. I opened my phone and saw that Maxwell had sent me a message on SnapChat.
[Maxwell: Any plans after work?]
I honestly replied, [Yes.]
The other side quickly responded.
[Maxwell: What are your plans for tonight?]
I lowered my head and typed, [The drama I was watching yesterday isn’t finished.]
[Maxwell:… That’s not the kind of plans I meant.]
Only then did I realize, [Oh oh, I don’t have any plans.]
[Maxwell: Come down, I’ll take you to dinner.]
Seeing Maxwell’s message, I quickly packed up my things and ran into the elevator.
After going downstairs and leaving the company, Maxwell was leaning against the car door. His suit and mature demeanor attracted quite a few glances.
However, the person being looked at had no reaction, just lowering his head to scroll through his phone.
I was panting, “I’m here, Maxwell.”
Maxwell was silent for a moment, as if wanting to say something, but in the end only said, “Mm, get in the car.”
Maxwell took me to a rather hard–to–find Japanese restaurant. All the bad mood from my day was cured by the delicious food.
Maxwell looked at me, “Finished eating?”
I nodded, Maxwell looked at his watch, then cleared his throat, “Well, I want to talk to you about something.”
I nodded, “Go ahead, go ahead.”
Maxwell was obviously a bit nervous, even loosening his collar before speaking.
“Ahem… I, I, I want to tell you.
I got nervous too, “What do you want to tell me?”
Maxwell looked at me seriously and said earnestly, “I like you. You can reject me, but I will pursue you.”
These few sentences from Maxwell directly caused my brain to short–circuit. I opened my mouth, not knowing what to say.
My heart was in chaos. I didn’t know if I liked Maxwell or not, so I left Maxwell with a “Sorry, give me some time to think about it.” before hurriedly leaving.
Before walking out the door, I looked back at Maxwell. Maxwell’s figure seemed to have shattered, looking extremely pitiful.
I didn’t want to soften my heart and left firmly.
For the next few days, Maxwell didn’t appear in my dreams. I never dreamed about Maxwell again.
And at the company, Maxwell still drove me to work, but never gave me a hug.
This day, I received a call from my mom, asking me to go to a restaurant, have dinner with someone, and then send them home.
agreed, then sent Maxwell a message.

[I’m going to have dinner with someone else tonight, you don’t need to drive me.]
Maxwell didn’t reply.
I sighed and put away my phone.
After work, I found the restaurant following the address my mother gave me. Looking at the well–dressed woman, I had an ominous premonition.
Unexpectedly, the woman got straight to the point, “I’m Vanessa, monthly salary fifteen thousand, two houses, one
car, six–figure savings.”
Noticing Vanessa looking at me, I also introduced myself, “Uh… I’m Caleb, monthly salary thirteen thousand, one house, one car, hundred thousand in savings…”
I thought guiltily, fifty–something thousand, rounded up is a hundred thousand, right?
Vanessa nodded and smiled, “Your conditions are not bad. Let’s eat then.”
I smiled awkwardly.
This meal was tasteless for me. I always felt like something was about to happen.
After sending Vanessa back, I took out my keys to open the door when suddenly a handkerchief covered my mouth and nose.
I thought it smelled quite nice, just like Maxwell’s scent. I couldn’t help but take a few deep breaths, then passed out.
When I opened my eyes, Maxwell was crouching in front of me, looking at me with a complex expression.
“Maxwell… what are you doing?” Looking at the chains on my hands and the collar on my neck, I had a bad guess.
I had been imprisoned by Maxwell.
Maxwell smelled strongly of cigarettes, and stubble had grown on his chin, making him look very unkempt.
“I didn’t want to do this either, Caleb. But how could you say you’re considering it while going on a date with another woman behind my back?” Maxwell looked down at me, his voice getting colder and colder.
Maxwell grabbed my chin and forced me into a kiss.
When it ended, my face was still flushed, seemingly not having come to my senses yet.
Maxwell said coldly, “Since you’re so eager to find someone, I’ll keep you here. Let’s see how you find anyone.”
With that, Maxwell left the basement.
I looked at the chains on my hands, thinking desperately, how come kissing feels even better than hugging…
