It’s hard to say for sure, but I understand Derek’s ambition.
The company isn’t his one–man show either. I suspect Yvonne must be playing the game of placing people first and reporting later.
Thanks to that wedding, those business partners in the country also know about my grievances with Derek. They’ve more or less leaked some news to me, like how the White family directly pushed Derek’s cousin forward, putting very obvious pressure on him.
Caught between love and career, I estimate Derek must be having a hard time too.
Tessa was clearly dissatisfied with my comments:
“What do you mean? Are you starting to feel sorry for how his life is going? Are you going to send him care packages next?”
I curved my eyebrows in a smile:
“No care packages, but I’m wondering if I can take advantage of this opportunity to make some money.”
“I thought you were blinded by love, but turns out you’re a capitalist.”
But I didn’t expect that two months later, I would actually receive a call from Derek.
“Aria.”
Suddenly hearing his voice after so long made me shudder involuntarily.
“Derek? No wonder the professor kept refusing to tell me the client’s name, only saying it was an old acquaintance. So it was you.”

My attitude towards Derek being able to find me could be described as rather indifferent.
I went abroad, I didn’t die.
The social circles at home and abroad are just this big, and now there are no barriers in business. Derek wanting to find me just required a bit more effort.
“Aria, I…”
His hesitant attitude annoyed me so much I mentally rolled my eyes.
What about you? No matter what you say, I have nothing to reminisce about with a cheating ex–boyfriend. I’m already being kind by not wishing him to spiral into the ground. I’m only exchanging pleasantries out of respect for him being a client.
I coldly interrupted Derek’s attempt at conversation:
