I went back to my parents‘ house.
When they found out I was divorcing Lucian, they were livid.
“I told you that guy was no good! Good riddance, honestly. Better to be rid of him. Take some time to clear your head, honey. And when you’re ready, I want you to handle the new overseas projects at work,” my mom added.
I nodded, agreeing to handle it when I was ready. The next morning, I went to the office to finish up my resignation and hand over my work.
As soon as I walked in, I ran into Lucian and Marina.
So, she hadn’t left after all. Or maybe he’d dragged her back.
I didn’t let it bother me. I kept my focus on work, meeting with colleagues to tie up loose ends.
But then, Lucian came over, standing in front of me with that arrogant look on his face.
“Selene. You need to apologize to Marina, and we’ll just forget about what happened yesterday.”
I almost laughed out loud. “Apologize? For what? Is it because I gave her money for her ticket? Or because I gave her the courage to leave you?”
Feeling awkward, Marina started crying. “Lucian, please, just let me go…”
Lucian stepped in front of her, trying to shield her from me.
“Selene, how dare you speak like that? You think money can just solve everything? You’ve humiliated her, just to get her out of my life. Are you even human? Our marriage isn’t something you can just buy your way out of.”
I was stunned for a moment, and then I couldn’t hold back a bitter laugh..
“Marina, you think I humiliated you with money?”
Lucian put his hands around her, like she was some kind of fragile treasure. “Selene, apologize, now!”
“Don’t get too cocky, Lucian. Why don’t you ask your precious Marina why I gave her the money in the first place? By the way my recorder was running the whole time that day as I was about to talk to my lawyer. I have everything she said.”
Marina’s face went pale, and before I could even blink, she fainted.
Lucian freaked out, scooping her up in his arms like she was about to break into pieces.
I rolled my eyes. Her act was so transparent. I wasn’t going to stick around for it.
But of course. Lucian stepped in front of me again. blocking my path.
11:28 AM
‘Apologize to her right now! She’s not well. Do you want her to get even sicker?”
“Are you serious, Lucian?”
His voice was almost a shout now, filled with fury. “I’m telling you. Apologize. Now!”
I’d never seen him this angry, not even close. But now, for Marina, he was losing it completely.
“Lucian, you really think you have the right to order me around?”
He came at me, his hand raised, ready to hit.
I blocked his arm, my anger rising. “I’m done letting you walk all over me. I’ve already quit the company, so let’s make this official. Sign the d*mn divorce papers.”
His anger faltered for a moment, but he was still standing in my way. “What divorce papers? Who says I’m divorcing you?”
“Lucian, get this straight. I’m the one who wants the divorce. Oh, and by the way, you should probably move out of my house. As for the money you’ve spent on hotels, meals, and shopping with your little mistress, don’t worry. I’ll have my lawyer take care of that too. I’ll get it all back.”
