The Cost of a Promise
My marriage with Liam Johnson has always been a topic of discussion. He was beaten
by his parents and had three of his ribs broken, Just to marry me, a poor girl. But five yea

Surrounded by flowers and dazzling lights, Liam Johnson smiled warmly, his eyes on me. “Emma, you weren’t a choice I made after weighing the pros and cons. You’re the ne I fell for and became determined to be with, despite knowing I shouldn’t.”

My eyes began to redden, and I nodded in agreement. He carefully pulled me into his embrace, as if holding a treasure. But now, the boomerang he had avoided was circling
back.
I let out a self–deprecating laugh and tightened my fists at my sides.
