As the vlogger drove away, Liam Johnson was the first to notice me and instinctively let go of Ava Williams‘ hand.
He glanced at me.
“Emma Smith, just cooperating with the vlogger for a video.”
He remained nonchalant as usual.
Ava Williams smiled at me openly:
“Emma, what a coincidence.”
I nodded and reminded Liam Johnson:
“Remember to sign the divorce papers.”
As I turned to leave, Liam Johnson called out to me condescendingly:
“Emma, what can you do without me?”
It felt like a stone was lodged in my chest, the pain spreading to my heart.
As he moved, his ring finger revealed a ring.
It wasn’t our wedding band, but a simple plain band instead.
Unsurprisingly, Ava Williams had a matching one.
I paused for a moment.
A few months ago, I had also seen this ring.
Liam Johnson had explained: “I’m just wearing it occasionally to protect our wedding rings.”
I believed him because that ring looked so ordinary and meaningless.
Now it seemed this was the symbol of his love for Ava Williams.
I couldn’t help but laugh.
Under his watchful gaze, I took off my wedding ring and threw it into the snow.
Without a second thought, I turned and left.
I heard Ava Williams ask Liam Johnson behind me:
“Sorry, I caused a rift between you two.”
Liam Johnson scoffed lightly:
“Our child is all grown up now, she won’t be foolish enough to give up this family.”
I called a lawyer I trusted.
I would have to settle for less in the divorce settlement.
Foolish?
