Her suggestion seemed practical. Adrian was unconscious, after all, and it wasn‘ t like he’d notice. Plus, it would spare me from looking like a clumsy butcher.
With that thought, I climbed into the tub. The warm water immediately surrounded me, steam filling the room with comforting heat. I couldn’t help but sigh in contentment.
“Adrian, don’t be shy. I’m your wife, remember? Bathing you is my
responsibility,” I joked, my voice light and teasing. My words were met with silence, of course, but his unresponsive state gave me the confidence to keep speaking.
As I bathed him, my gaze occasionally wandered over his features. Even in his current state, Adrian‘ s beauty was undeniable. I couldn’t help but feel grateful–thanks to him, I’d seen more than I ever dreamed possible, more than

Once the bath was over, Amanda and I moved Adrian back to his bed. But my thoughts were racing. Those
“hallucinations” I’d experienced earlier… what if they weren‘ t hallucinations at all?
“Amanda, is there a tripod in the house?” I asked suddenly.
She left to fetch one, and I wasted no time. setting it up. Placing a stool in front of Adrian‘ s bed, I mounted my phone on the tripod and began recording. If he really was conscious, any reaction he made would be caught on camera.
“Adrian, I feel like you can hear me. Can you smile for me?” I whispered, leaning close to his ear as I watched him intently. Nothing.
I tried massaging his arms, pressing on acupressure points I’d read about online, but still, there was no response. Frustrated, I sighed and turned toward the door.

That’s when I accidentally kicked the bedpost.
The sharp pain shot through my foot, and I yelped, clutching my toe as tears sprang to my eyes. Amanda rushed in, concerned.
“What happened, Miss Greer?”
“My toe! I hit the bedpost–this hurts so much!” I wailed, half–laughing at my own clumsiness.
As Amanda left to grab medicine, something caught my attention. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Adrian’s fingers twitch–just slightly, but enough to make my heart race.
I quickly grabbed my phone to check the recording. Rewinding to the moment of my outcry, I watched as Adrian’s fingers moved. For the briefest second, it even seemed like he was trying to open his eyes.
“He moved! He really moved!” I shouted, my pain forgotten.

I immediately sent the video to Abigail, Adrian’s mother. Within minutes, her face appeared on a video call, her expression a mix of hope and disbelief.
“Miss Greer, did Adrian really move?” she asked, her voice trembling.
“Yes! I saw him twitch his fingers, and I’ve even seen him smile before. He‘ s definitely still conscious!” I exclaimed, feeling a swell of pride at my discovery.
Tears filled Abigail‘ s eyes. “It’s strange… I visit him every month, but he’s never reacted like this. You must be my lucky star, Miss Greer.”
“It might‘ ve just been a coincidence,” I said modestly, though I didn’t believe it myself. “You should come back and see him for yourself.”
“I’ll be there tomorrow. In the
meantime, keep talking to him and record anything unusual. I haven’t seen him smile in two years,” Abigail said, her voice

cracking.
After ending the call, I turned my attention. back to Adrian. He’d moved when I cried out in pain, so I decided to replicate the scenario.
“Ouch! My toe! It hurts so much! Honey, I think it’s broken!” I yelled dramatically, bending over and clutching my foot for effect.
I glanced at Adrian, hoping for a reaction.
Nothing.
Not giving up, I wailed louder, trying different pitches of fake sobbing. My neighbors would‘ ve thought I was losing my mind if they could hear me.
Suddenly, I thought I saw the corners of his mouth twitch. Holding my breath, I leaned closer.
‘Adrian, are you smiling? Are you laughing at me?” I asked, my tone both excited and accusatory.

Frustrated but determined, I sat back down and began recording again. If Adrian truly was conscious, I was going to prove it- even if I had to stub my other toe to make it happen.
