Chapter 61
Meanwhile, Antonio looked at his lantern and he sighed as he didn’t know what to wish for.
He didn’t believe in such things, as he found them stupid, but the same couldn’t be said for the woman standing in front of him.
Plus, there was nothing he could think of. He already had money, power, and fame. What else was there to ask for? He wondered.
Lighting his lantern, he stared at it. Since he didn’t know what to do, he simply asked that whatever Zabelle wished for be fulfilled, unless it was to be free from him.
“Send them up!” The couple heard someone say, and they sent their lanterns up to the sky.
Zabelle watched it go up, and she could only hope that her wish would get fulfilled.
Antonio turned his attention from her when he felt someone’s eyes on him. Looking through the crowd, he found nothing suspicious, and he frowned.
His gut feeling was usually never wrong about this kind of thing, and he squinted his eyes.
“Zabelle, I think it’s time we left,” he said to her.
“No, we haven’t been here for long,” Zabelle whined. She still had a whole list of things she wanted to do, and he wanted to cut the night short.
“Zabelle, it’s time to go!” He declared firmly, and Zabelle finally looked at him to notice that something was wrong.
“What’s wrong?” She inquired.
“I don’t know yet, and that’s why we have to leave,” he said as he grabbed her hand and started to lead her back to his car.
“Antonio, you’re scaring me,” Zabelle told him as she followed him.
Having been stabbed and kidnapped in the last couple of months, fear creeped up her spine over what it was this time.
When they got to the car, Antonio’s eyes widened in horror when he saw that all car tyres had been deflated, and he banged his fists on the car as he knew he had been right.
Someone was out to get them, and they were walking right into the person’s trap.
Without wasting time, he opened the car and brought out the gun in the glove compartment so they would have something to protect themselves with.
“A–Antonio,” Zabelle tugged his shirt as her body shook with fear
“Look at me, I need you to be at your best right now, can you do that so we can get to safety?” He asked and she nodded. “Good,” Antonio stated as he brought out his phone to make a phone call to his guards to come get them. The one time he decided not to go with them, this had to happen, he hissed in annoyance.
“Ahh!” Zabelle shrieked when a bullet which was sent their way at the car, and Antonio immediately grabbed her hand and pulled her away from there towards the crowd.
It seemed the person wasn’t aiming to kidnap them but was aiming for blood.
When they got to where the crowd was, they immediately mixed with it so it would be difficult for the attackers to find them

Seeing that he wouldn’t–be afforded the luxury of calling due to the fact that they were in a noisy environment, Antonio quickly dropped a message for his guard, after which he turned his attention back to Zabelle.
“Oh my goodness, this is my fault. I should have made us come out here tonight,” Zabelle began to hyperventilate, and that wasn’t what he needed at that moment.
“Zabelle, no. We need to focus on getting ourselves to safety and not blame anyone when it’s not even your fault. I need that hot headed woman I know,” he stated.
Just like he said, he wasn’t blaming her. The men who had done this seemed to be trained, which meant that even if they hadn’t come to the town, they would have come looking for them regardless.
“Find them!” He heard someone yell and when he turned he saw that the men had finally come out of their hiding spot and were now searching for them.
He was clearly outnumbered, and it didn’t seem like a good idea to try to fight them, especially when he had a wife he needed to protect.
Grabbing her hand, he led her away from the man while looking for a place they could hide.
“Oh, you two are back already,” the elderly woman whom they had brought the lantern from said with delight when the couple arrived at her stall.
“We need a place to hide asap. Someone is trying to kill us,” Antonio told her, and the woman seemed to recognize the urgency in the situation as she urged them to come in.
“Get down and don’t make a sound,” she told the couple, and they did as she told them.
The stall was small and Antonio had no choice but to hold Zabelle close to him.
“Are we going to die?” She mouthed to him and he shook his head.
It wasn’t time for either one of them to die, and he would ensure that it didn’t happen.
Zabelle wrapped her hands around Antonio, and she buried her face in his chest as she needed the sense of security only he could provide.
As much as they hadn’t been seeing eye
to eye,
he was
still the only one who could protect her in the situation they were in.
She raised her hand to look at him when he moved, and she saw that he had brought out his phone.
“Hey, old lady,” she heard someone say to the woman, and she gasped in fear.
However, Antonio, who had expected it, placed his hands over her mouth to stop any sound from coming out.
“Shh!” He placed a finger over his lips as a gesture for her to keep quiet.
“Gentlemen, how may I help you?” The elderly woman asked them.
“We’re looking for these two. Have you seen them?” They heard the room say to him, and Antonio assumed he was showing her a picture of them.
“Ah yes, the lovely couple who bought sky lanterns front me,” the old woman responded and Zabelle felt her heart dipped as she was scared the old woman would give out their location.
“Where are they? The man asked Impatiently, and she buried her head in Antonio’s chest once more, as this was the moment of truth.
“I saw them running that way” just like that, the tension which told built up dispersed and Zabelle heaved a sigh of relief
