Chapter 66
“Hi,” the woman spoke and Zabelle was shocked to see that she was talking to her as the last time she had walked away from
her.
“Hi,” she responded, and they were silent after that, as neither one of them knew what to say.
“I’m sorry I didn’t bring any flowers, Alejandro told me about what happened to you in the ride on the elevator,” the woman apologized and Zabelle smiled slightly.
“It’s okay, I’m not a big fan of flowers,” she stated, and the woman smiled back at her.
“I’m Nivera,” the woman then introduced herself.
“I’m Zabelle, but I’m guessing you already know that,” she asserted, and the woman nodded.
“Everyone knows who you are,” Nivera stated.
“Please have a seat,” Zabelle offered and Nivera walked up to the stool where Antonio had been sitting, and she sat on it.
“Is it that bad?” Zabelle inquired.
“You’re married to Antonio, everyone knows who you are,” Nivera repeated.
“Okay, since we’re speaking about knowing who people are, you looked familiar, like someone I’ve seen on my screen,” Zabelle squinted her eyes at Nivera.
She didn’t really follow celebrities, and so she couldn’t place where he had seen Nivera. Even the name sounded familiar. “Okay it’s good you do not know who I am as I’m tired of people recognizing and stalking me I’m a nobody,” Nivera whispered and Zabelle chuckled.
Meanwhile, outside the room, the two men were on a call with Martin, who was giving them an update about what he had been asked to investigate.
“Some of the men escaped and some died. The one we managed to capture said they were a gang who kidnapped people for money.”
“I highly doubt that, as they had intended to kill me,” Antonio argued.
“Doesn’t the report lead back to Gabriel Pierce?” Alejandro inquired, as the phone was on speaker.
No, surprisingly, it didn’t. Martin replied.
“It’s either one of two things, he has no idea about the attack, or he does and actually covered his trail this time thanks to what happened the last time. Don’t forget to investigate Jeremy as well.”
The asshole was still a suspect and his silence was something that was suspicious, as Antonio knew that Jeremy wasn’t the kind of person to give up so easily.
In order to protect Zabelle and not to give out any much information, he had made sure that no one found out about the fact that she had been shot.
The one who was behind it was going to be on the lookout, and he didn’t want him having any information that he would ute to make a new plan.
“Will do, boss, Martin told Antonio, after which the latter disconnected the call.

“Without proof, it will be difficult for you to attack Gabriel or Jeremy, whichever one is responsible.” Alejandro pointed out.
The two of them knew that one of the men was behind it; it was a question of whom.
Alejandro’s statement was aimed at the fact that when Zabelle would find out about it, she wouldn’t be too happy about him attacking either one of the men.
The girl had a soft heart and while it was cute, it was also a detriment to her as she kept on forgiving and accepting those who wanted nothing more than to hurt and see her in pain.
Antonio knew Alejandro was right and this made him sigh deeply as he wondered what he could do to make Zabelle not to be so forgiving and accepting.
“Then we have to make sure we find proof,” was what he said in response to his brother’s words.
“By the way, I hope you trust Nivera well enough considering the fact that you brought her here,” he squinted his eyes at his brother.
“You don’t have to worry about her as she won’t be spilling to anyone,” Alejandro assured his brother, and Antonio trusted his brother’s judgment.
“Is she the one who would make you finally settle down?” Antonio asked his brother curiously.
“No!” Alejandro declared firmly as he glared at his brother for even thinking of such a thing.
Unlike Antonio who took a U–turn, and actually got married, he wasn’t going to be doing the same as marriage wasn’t something that was on his to–do list.
Whatever was happening between him and Nivera was a game. Nothing more, nothing less.
“Yes, sure,” Antonio rolled his eyes, indicating that he did not believe Alejandro’s answer at all.
“You should call Aunt to inform her about Zabelle regaining her consciousness,” Alejandro changed the subject.
“Hmm, Antonio muttered. Wanting to see if Zabelle was still fine, he opened the door quietly, and he saw Zabelle and Nivera talking and from what he could draw out they seemed to have gotten acquainted with each other.
He wasn’t oblivious to the fact that Zabelle had no friends, and while he didn’t see any problem with that, he didn’t think the same applied to her.
Having been deprived of a loving relationship from those who were supposed to love her, she must have felt there was no need to have friends due to her fear of her not being loved enough by them.
Maybe a friend was one of the things she needed to get her to stop being so soft.
If she had a genuine friend, she would know what it was like to be loved and wouldn’t take that bullshit she was taken from her family anymore, he hoped..
“Whatever it is you have going on with Nivera better last for a long time, as the two seem to be getting along.” he told Alejandro, who peeped through the door.
“I’m not making any promises,” he told Antonio.
You’re funny, Zabelle remarked as she wiped away the tears that had fallen due to how hard she had laughed.
After they had gotten rid of the awkwardness, Nivera told her the reason why she had been so cold to her at the wedding. and it was because of Alejandro in her word.

It seems like even though Alejandro was jovial, he was still similar to Antonio in many ways, as Nivera had told her that Alejandro had made her attend the wedding against her will.
It was the first time she had been meeting her and so Nivera naturally assumed that she was the same as Alejandro, and her explanation made sense to Zabelle.
This was due to the fact that she had also judged Antonio’s family before getting to know them due to what he did.
The door opened, and she turned thinking it was Antonio, but it turned out to be Alicia and William.
Nivera immediately got up and before Zabelle knew it, she was gone.
“Zabelle you’re awake,” Alicia said as she walked up to her.” How do you feel?”
“I feel better,” Zabelle responded. Compared to when she had just woken up, she felt better, as she wasn’t in too much pain anymore.
“You took the bullet for Antonio, what were you thinking?!” Alicia asked her.
At that moment, when she had done it, she had taken the bullet without thinking, but after she had been shot, a lot of things ran through her mind.
Like how she would be happy and how it was better she was the one who got hit instead of Antonio.
He was the only child of his parents, and she didn’t want to imagine how they would react if he died. She on the other hand wouldn’t be missed.
“I didn’t think, I just didn’t want him to get shot,” Zabelle answered and Alicia patted her hand.
“He really scored a gem when he found you,” she remarked, and William hummed in agreement.
“Thank you, Zabelle, and I’m happy you survived,” he said, and she nodded. While everyone was happy she had survived, the same didn’t apply to her.
She had gotten a shot at eternal happiness, but that had been snatched away from her, only to return to where there was no love for her.
In public, she would put on a happy face, but whenever she was alone, only she knew how she suffered, and it was getting too much for her to bear.
She wondered where Antonio was, as she hadn’t seen him since he stepped out to receive the call. Was he already avoiding her so soon?
He didn’t even find her to get better this time, she thought to herself. If one option has failed, then she would find a way to end her life.
Antonio walked back into Zabelle’s room and just like the last time she was staring at the ceiling, and he wondered what she was thinking about..
“Zabelle,” he called, and she turned to face him.
“Does it still hurt as much as before?” He asked as he took his seat beside the bed.
“No, but it still hurts,” Zabelle told him, and he nodded in understanding.
“It’s going to take a few days for it to fully heal.” He watched Zabelle groan in annoyance.
