After watching the drama unfold, I headed back to Alan’s hospital room. Iris was animatedly boasting about her “victories” to Alan, completely missing the look of disgust on his face.

Yesterday, Isabella had asked a nurse to wheel her over to see her beloved Alan. They hugged and cried, pouring their hearts out in front of me. But when Isabella found out that Alan had lost both his legs. and was now disabled, her face went white. She quickly distanced herself from Alan, claiming her injury was acting up as an excuse to make a quick exit. Alan saw right through her–Isabella was just in it for the money. She wasn’t about to spend her life taking care of a disabled man.

The message was clear: she had no intention of stepping up herself.

Alan‘ s expression turned grim. “Mom, transfer the money to me.”

Iris’s eyes widened in alarm. “What money?”

“The salary I’ve been sending you. My monthly paycheck is over twenty thousand pounds, and every penny has gone into. your account. Plus, there’s a year–end bonus of over a hundred thousand pounds. I’ve saved up at least twelve thousand pounds over the last three years, not counting interest.”

“I need that money now. Transfer a million pounds to me.”
