Chapter 8
Iris’s eyes narrowed with irritation. “How should I know? Aren’t you
supposed to be taking care of it? Listen up, Katrina–if anything happens to my granddaughter, you’ll be sorry!”
Her threats sent a shiver down my spine. I couldn’t focus on her accusations; I needed to find my baby.
I scrambled through the house, and finally, amidst a pile of clothes, I found her. But it was too late–she wasn‘ t breathing
anymore.
Everything around me seemed to crumble. Iris peeked in, and her tone was indifferent. “Well, she’s gone. Big deal. She was just a useless little girl. Stop crying. You two are nothing but bad luck; your whining has ruined my finances.”
When Alan came home and found out what
happened, he blasted me for being a

terrible mother, saying I couldn‘ teven take care of a baby. He claimed it was just bad luck.
I was about to call the cops, but Iris had already taken down the cameras.
The nanny, who had been wrongly accused of theft by Iris, was beaten up and had her phone smashed. The whole mess even went to the police, but Iris paid her off and sent her packing since it was just a trial. period and no official contract had been signed.
My baby’s life was lost for nothing.
Seeing Iris‘ s smug look, I realized it was all planned. When she’d threatened to
“deal with” the baby if she cried, I thought she was just being nasty, never imagining she would actually do it.
I couldn’t believe she had the guts to go through with it!
Iris had the nerve to say, “Now that the baby’s gone, we don’t need to pay for a

nanny anymore. You can just focus on your job.”
It was all a scheme to save a few thousand
dollars on a nanny, so I could keep working and feeding their greed!
There was no way to prove her guilt. Even if the cops came, I knew her manipulative ways would cover her tracks. If she was found guilty, it’d just be a short stay in prison, with three square meals and some basic rights.
That wasn’t enough to make up for what
she did. I wanted her dead!
At that moment, rage consumed me. I wanted to storm into the kitchen, grab a knife, and kill both of them. Even if I had to chop them into pieces and spend a fortune, it wouldn‘ tease my fury.
I wanted her to pay for the life she took.
