Chapter 62
“They are gone, but you might want to stay here until help comes. The police here are pretty much useless,” the woman said, and Zabelle turned to look at Antonio.
Just as she finished speaking, customers approached the old lady, and she became engaged with them.
“Is help coming?” She inquired.
“Hmm, it is,” he nodded as he looked at his phone. His men had already texted, telling him that they were on their way.
Now all they had to do was wait till they showed up so they could get to safety before teaching the men a lesson.
“Have you ever been in such a dangerous situation?” Antonio asked in an effort to pass
“Of course not. Before you came into my life, it was peaceful,” Zabelle replied.
the time.
There were no guns or kidnappings. The only dangerous situation she faced was getting to work and returning without being fired.
“Have you?” She inquired, and Antonio nodded in affirmation.
“A handful of times,” he grinned, and Zabelle assumed he had a few screws loose in his head for him to smile about such a thing.
“Why were they after you?”
“I like stepping on a lot of people’s toes, and not everyone can handle it,” Antonio shrugged casually.
“So are the men here for me or you?” A few weeks ago, the thought of the men being after her would have sounded ridiculous, but there she was thinking about the possibility.
“It’s hard to say,” Antonio responded as he tucked a strand of Zabelle’s hair behind her hair.
As usual, her hair felt soft in between his fingers, and he wondered what kind of hair products she used for it.
If they managed to make it out there alive, then it was best if they cut their honeymoon short and returned home, where they would be safer. Zabelle thought to herself.
She broke out of her thoughts when she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. Having nothing else to do, she brought it out to see what notification she had received.
“You posted?” She raised an eyebrow when she saw that the notification was from his account.
It would look bad if she wasn’t following him and when her account blew up, she had no choice but to tap the follow button even though it was useless as Antonio never posted.
“Hmm, I did,” Antonio responded in a bored tone, and she didn’t waste any time in clicking on it to know what he had posted.

widened in shock when she saw that it was a picture of her. From her expression, it seemed he had taken it when she was watching the fireworks.

How didn’t she notice? She asked herself. The most shocking part was the fact that Antonio had posted it.
She felt the wall she had built around her heart crumbling and a knot in her stomach.
No, don’t get carried away! He only did that to pretend that everything was alright between them. Nothing more nothing.

else, the rational voice in her head said; and she couldn’t help but agreed with it.
“The men are here,” Antonio said before she could say anything, and Zabelle heaved a sigh of relief.
“Good evening, gentlemen, how can I help you?” They heard the old woman ask.
“Tell the boss that we’re here!” Antonio heard a familiar voice, and he stood up from their hiding spot.
“They are my men,” he told the elderly woman, who nodded in delight.
“Good, now you two should get to safety, go!” She urged them, and they stepped out of her stail.
Antonio looked at the woman who had helped them with the intention of rewarding her, but it seemed she knew, as she shook her head.
“Just go, son!” She pushed them away, and his men stepped forward at that moment to lead them to their car.
Making sure he was holding on to Zabelle, they made their way to where the cars were parked.
“Did you see them?” Antonio asked the head of security, who shook his head.
“No I didn’t. It seems they’ve already left,” the guard answered, and Antonio frowned as he knew those kinds of people never gave up easily.
As they walked, Zabelle’s eyes wandered around as she was worried those men would come out of nowhere and attack them.
A spot on Antonio’s clothes suddenly caught her eyes, and when she turned to look at it, she saw that it was a red dot. It took less than a second for her to realize what it was and when she did she screamed in horror.
“Antonio, watch out!” Without thinking it through, she threw herself at him.
Antonio turned in time to catch her just as he felt her body flinch. His men immediately brought out their guns and started/ looking for the source.
He however didn’t care about that as all he cared about was the woman in his arms, tightly holding on to him.
“Are you okay?” he asked her, and she nodded.
However, a frown appeared on Antonio’s face when he felt something moist on his palm. When he raised it to check it, his eyes widened in horror when he saw his hands covered in blood
“Ah!” He didn’t know when the scream left him as he watched Zabelle fall to the ground.
“Zabelle,” he called out as he tapped her cheeks so she wouldn’t lose consciousness.
“P–please d–don’t kill M–Meredith,” he heard Zabelle plead with him just as more bullets were fired.
“I won’t, just stay with me,” he appealed to her.
“Sir, get in!” The head guard said after he managed to open the car door.
Antonio immediately lifted Zabelle up and carried her in the car and by the time he was in, she wasn’t opening her eyes anymore.
“Zabelle!” He called as he tapped her, but she didn’t respond, and he felt his heart pounding in his chest,
Fear which he had never felt hit him, and he checked for a pulse in order to ascertain if Zabelle was still alive.

Thankfully he managed to find it, but that didn’t reduce the fear he felt as she was turning colder with every passing second.
“Get me to the nearest hospital, goddammit!” He yelled in agitation as he looked at his wife, who was unconscious,
‘Zabelle stay with me!‘ He said to her and he held her hand.
William groaned in annoyance when he heard his phone ring. It was three in the morning, unless it was a life and death situation, whoever was calling was going to hear it from him.
Upon grabbing his phone, he opened his eyes and saw that it was Martin who was calling him.
He immediately became alert and sat up as it didn’t seem like it would be something good if his son’s head of security was calling so early.
“What is it?!” William asked after he answered the call.
“What?!” He yelled as he sprang out of bed and his yell finally woke Alicia up.
Upon seeing her husband pacing around, she knew something was wrong.
“What is it, William?” She inquired as she got out of bed.
“It’s Zabelle,” William said after he had ended the call.
“What about her?” Alicia probed anxiously.
“She’s been shot and is in critical condition. Antonio is flying her back here so she can receive proper medical attention,” he informed his wife whose hand flew to her mouth in horror.
What did he mean, Zabelle had been shot? Antonio posted her few hours ago, and they looked happy, so what was he saying?
“Oh my goodness,” she gasped as the news sank in. “We have to go
to
the hospital!”
William nodded in agreement and the two of them didn’t waste any time in getting dressed so they could head to the hospital.
Gabriel tapped his feet impatiently as he was waiting for the call to give him the good news that Antonio had been killed.
After what had happened the last time when Antonio had easily discovered that he was the one behind Zabelle’s kidnapping, he had made sure his connection wouldn’t be traced at all.
So when was the good news going to come? He asked himself as he stared at his phone.
As if on cue, his phone rang and he immediately answered the call. “Has the job been done?” He asked the spy who he had sent there to monitor the situation.
“No. Zabelle took the bullet which was meant for Antonio,” the caller informed him, and he sprang up from his seat.
“What?!” Gabriel exclaimed in horror. It wasn’t time for Zabelle to die and this was not what he had wanted to happen,
“How is she, did she survive?” He inquired.
“The last 1 saw was hier being carried into the car by Antonio aft she had fallen unconscious. I was unable to monitor what happened after that the caller said to him.

Gabriel didn’t waste any time in disconnecting the call, and he ran his fingers through his hair roughly.
‘Fuck!‘ he cursed in anger.
