Chapter 63
“Antonio!” Alicia called as she rushed to her son who was seated on the seat outside the operating theater.
Her hands flew to her mouth when she saw how his entire clothes was covered in blood. The fact that he was dressed in
white made it obvious.
Antonio heard his mother say something to him, but it sounded distant in his ears, as all that he could focus on was the way he had carried a bleeding and unconscious Zabelle back home.
He looked at his hand which was stained with her blood and he shook.
Why did she take the bullet for him?! He kept on to get rid of him so why?!
asking himself. He had been nothing but mean to her, and it was a chance
The fact that she didn’t beg to live was haunting him. She begged for the life of a woman he had threatened.
Zabelle was too good and everyone treated her like dirt, including him. He had been nothing but an asshole to her, and it killed him to know this.
“It was supposed to be me,” he finally spoke and Alicia cried for her son and her daughter–in–law who was fighting for her
life.
“She took the bullet for me.”
As he said it out loud, it sank further deeper and deeper. Zabelle had really taken the bullet for him, she was prepared to die to save him, the same person who had made her life a living hell.
“She’s going to live, right?” Antonio looked at his mother and all Alicia could do was to nod, and she turned to face William, who was staring at them.
It was the first time she was seeing her
son
in
such a state, and she didn’t know what to do.
Signaling her husband, he nodded and approached her. She wordlessly stood up and William took his seat.
For the first time in a long time, Antonio didn’t scowl at his father’s presence. He was far too eaten up in his guilt to do so.
Zabelle had to survive as he had to make amends for a lot of things. If she died, it would scar him for life, and he didn’t know if he would be able to recover.
She hadn’t even gotten her revenge on her family and Jeremy for what they had done, there were too many things she had to take care of. She simply couldn’t just die!
Zabelle had held on when she had been stabbed, she couldn’t die now.
“I know we aren’t on the best of terms, but right now, you need to be strong for Zabelle,” William stated, and he ran his fingers through his hair roughly.
His father was right, he needed to be strong but how was he supposed to do that when his head kept on replaying Zabelle’s. bleeding body.
“Who were the men that attacked you?” William then asked his son in a bid to bring him back to normal.
Antonio’s eyes immediately darkened, and he clenched his fists in anger. “I don’t know.” He had left his men to handle the attackers after Zabelle had been shot, and he hadn’t thought of them ever since, so he didn’t even know if they had been captured or not.
“Call Martin and ask him to get on the case!” William urged his on and Antonio nodded bi agreement as he made the call

“Antonio,” his mother called when he was done making the call and when he looked at what she was pointing to, he saw that the doctors were coming out of the operating theater.
He quickly rushed to them so he could know if Zabelle was fine or not. “How is she?” He inquired.
“She’s out of danger. However, she lost a lot of blood, and so we’ll have to keep her under observation until we’re sure she’s okay,” a doctor said to him.
The relief that washed over him upon hearing that Zabelle was alive couldn’t be described.
She had fought and won once again. She was really a fighter.
“She’ll be moved into the ICU after which you’ll be allowed to see her,” the same doctor informed him and he nodded.
“Go see your wife but the moment you come out of that room, it’s going to be revenge time!” William told his son.
It took about twenty minutes before everything was finalized for him to see Zabelle.
He immediately made his way to the bed, after which he sat down. Her face had gone very pale, and she had an oxygen mask on.
Slowly reaching out, Antonio stroked her hair and he sighed. ‘We have a lot of things that needs a do–over so recover quickly and open your eyes,’ he told her as he then moved to grab her hand.
‘I’m glad you’re okay,‘ he exhaled in relief as he stared at the unconscious Zabelle.
What had happened was going to be a huge turning point in his relationship with her and for the first time, he knew where he stood, and he wasn’t ashamed of it.
Alejandro impatiently made his way into the hospital. Not bothering to ask which room Zabelle was in, he headed straight there as Alicia had already given him the details.
Getting in front of the room, he didn’t bother to knock and he opened the door.
When he got in, he found Antonio seated on the sofa, looking at Zabelle. From the bags under his eyes, it was obvious his brother hadn’t slept a wink.
“Antonio, why didn’t you call me?” Alejandro probed as he took his seat beside Antonio.
He had found out about what happened to Zabelle from his Aun, and it was puzzling to him as to why Antonio didn’t bother to call him.
The fact that what happened, did so at an early period wasn’t an excuse Antonio knew that he would have showed up regardless.
“I didn’t want to disturb you, seeing as you already have a lot on your plate with her,” Antonio responded without taking his eyes off Zabelle.
He was scared that if he took his eyes off her, something would happen to her.
“Oh,” Alejandro muttered. Antonio didn’t have to go into details, as they both knew what he was talking about.
“Aunt said the bullet was meant for you and that she took it.”
“Yes, that’s true,” Antonio affirmed “Would you take a bullet for someone who you see as an enemy?” He then asked.
“No, I wouldn’t,” Alejandro gave the answer he had arrived at when he asked himself the same question.

“She isn’t as bad as we thought, she’s badder,” Alejandro remarked as his eyes fell on the unconscious woman on the bed.
Just as he had thought right from when he had heard about her. She was the one. He just wished she had proven that to Antonio in a different way, one that wasn’t dangerous for her life,
